Tire dust?
I have Nitto 555s that I put on just a couple of weeks ago. I'm getting what looks to be black dust on the back of the car that looks like tire dust. Is this normal? It's covering the rear in a thin coat. Being a white car doesn't help.
No I'm not sure what it is. It could be from the brakes. It's hard imagine that it's from the tires because the red lines that are printed on the wear surface of the tire are still there after 200 miles or so.

Oh that's what you mean. No, I never have slid it at all.
I just washed it and it was all over. I'm guessing it must be the brake pads. I've heard that the stock pads are dusty but didn't think they could be this bad.
What do I replace them with that won't make a mess for street use?

I have had that black dust build up on my PPW Z since day one. I recently changed to Hawks HPS pads but that didn't reduce the amount of dust the built up. It's always all over my rear bumper and spoiler. I'm not sure if it's tire dust or just dust that get's kicked up from off the street. At anyrate wax and a california duster makes life easier.
Sounds like brake dust to me. I've got hawks arriving this week. I hope they live up to their claim of "extremely low brake dust". My ZR is SB, so I don't see the dust on the body so much, but after 2-3 days of normal driving, my Enkei RPO3's look to be charcoal instead of silver.
I'll report on dust reduction after the install. +1 on the California Duster.

I think it might be the new tires... I've had Hawks on for the last 3 months and had A LOT less brake dust. However, I just got new Bridgestone S-O3's over the past weekend and I got all this black dust on my wheel lips and mud guards that I didn't have before...more like black particles as opposed to dust. I'm going to hose them down real good and give the sidewalls a scrub when I get a chance. Hope that works...
