Question For those who have the Crawford Strut Bar...

...how many of you are getting some rubbing issues with your hood? I ran into a thread that said they were having this issue so I just wanted to see if this is a common occurance with this strut bar. TIA.

Mine rubs. One spot, leaving aluminum dust all over the front of the engine on the passenger side.

Hmm? That's not good. Have you tried putting some sort of padding on the hood where it hits the bar like a piece of weather strip tape?

Mine rubs rubs pretty bad in 2 spots, enough that the contact from the hood have actually eaten away and left an indent on the strut bar and hood. They should charge 1/2 of what they do for this rubbing, hood scratching strut bar. Also on my car, where the ends of the powdercoated black bracket is, the corner of one side hits the hood as well, and it has actually pushed the hood up a tiny bit and cracked the paint-think of a reverse dent looks like this

i also have a lil rubbing, but it doesn't bother me that much.

James, if needed, you can test fit my crawford bar if ya like. i assume this is due to your aftermarket hood?

Thanks for the offer Michelle. I actually swapped back to my OEM hood since I was a bit uncomfortable with the fiberglass one (was a bit too flimsy for me). I'm sure this is normal for aftermarket hoods, especially fiberglass ones, but I didn't want to risk having my hood fly off or use hood pins. I'll think about your offer...thanks!

Hmm? With all these rubbing issues, I wonder why nobody has brought this up to Crawford to fix? I'm sure this would be an easy fix. Just some slight modifications. Hope Crawford sees this & chimes in.

Wonder if the APS Strut Bar has this same issue? The problem is, the APS has a ridiculous price!

I think the Stillen one will fit, too. Not sure on the prices, though.

Yeah, I was considering the Stillen bar as well but it looks funky with those circular patterns. Anyone got some good pics of this installed besides the one provided by the manufacturer?

Well, the main reason why I'm looking for this type of strut bar is not specifically because the hood but because I'll be getting the new APS Plenum installed so I will not be able to use the standard strut bar design. I'm just trying to research this rubbing issue I've been hearing though which concerns me.

with the crawford, you drill the hole across your plastic cover or without it, it is still lower than the OEM. I don't think you will have any problem with it.

hey James, so you just throw away your aftermarket hood?

the crawford strut bar is lower then the OEM bar, but because it's further forward and the hood slopes down, it rubs - also the hood has an archway for the OEM strut bar to make room for it

I'll be taking off the cover for my setup. Will try to polish the engine to give it some "bling" factor .

I'll be selling my hood off for dirt cheap pretty soon. I'm sure with a little more work it would've fit but I was really turned off on how flimsy it was. I'm sure this is normal for aftermarket hoods, especially fiberglass, but I really didn't want to deal with it. I felt more comfortable with the OEM aluminum hood.
