Default Spring Rate Database?

I thought there was one on this site a long time ago, but search did not find it. Does anyone have a list of the various spring and coilover setups for the Z along with the specific spring rates of each kit? I want something stiffer than my Eibachs.

Thanks,

Thanks,
Here's the data list I've been adding to for some time now, it's info you will see on other sites.

Normally the list includes G35 spec'd items as well, I removed them except for one entry.

Oem springs 350Z’s 2003/2004
Front:314 Rear:342

Oem springs 350Z 2004.5/2005 (found 04 car's that have the revised susp.)
Front:314 Rear:427

Any spring or coil over that has “stiffer then oem springs by” does not factor in the higher rear spring rates of 04.5+350Z’s, figures are for 03/04 car's.

Eibach 350Z progressive springs 1”/1” drop* (*higher amounts common)
Spring rates in LBS initial/final front 296/384 initial/final rear 316/421
F +22% R +23% (looking at peak rates only)

RSR 350Z linear springs .6”/.6” drop
Spring rates in LBS 345/417
Stiffer then oem by F+10% R+22% (see note at very top)
Transfers +12% roll stiffness to rear

Hotchkis 350Z Linear springs .6”/.8” drop
Spring rates in lbs 340/330
Stiffer or softer then oem springs by F+8% R-3% (see note at very top)
Transfers +12% roll stiffness to front

Tokico springs as part of 350Z shock/spring package 1.2'/1.2' drop
Spring rates in lbs 375/375 on linear springs
Stiffer then oem by F+20% R+10%
(note sold without the shocks to my knowledge and no one has them on their Z to my knowledge either)

Tein S-tech 350z (fronts are progressive, rears are linear) .7”/.6” drop
Spring rates in lbs 386/402 (final rates only, softer initial front progressive rate unknown)
Stiffer then oem by F+23% R+16%

Tein H-tech 350z linear springs .3”/.2” drop
Spring rates in LBS 358/375
Stiffer then oem springs by F+14% R+10%

Tanabe GF210 Series 350Z progressive springs 1”/1.2” drop
Spring rates in LBS 336/375 (only peak rates are published, softer initial progressive rates unknown)
Stiffer then oem springs by F+7% R+10%

Tanabe NF210 Series 350Z progressive springs 1.2”/1.2” drop
Spring rates in LBS 314/353
Stiffer then oem springs by F+0 R+3%

Swift 350Z linear springs .8”/.6” drop on 350Z, G35 drop will be higher)
Spring rates in LBS 336/364

Nismo T2 350Z Linear springs 1”/1” drop on 350Z
Spring rates in LBS 625/700
IMO the only off the shealf shock I'd run with them are from TcKline or JRZ

Vogtland 350z progressive springs 1”/1” drop on 350Z G35 drop will be higher
Spring rates in LBS initial/final front 257/354 initial/final rear 285/422

Kg/mm springs 350Z
DR21 super sport 15mm drop
Spring rates in lbs initial/final front 246/398 initial/final rear 252/409

Kg/mm springs 350Z
DRacing 30mm drop
Spring rates in LBS initial/final front 252/454 initial/final rear 252/482 rear

NOTE ON Espelir below, the U.S. importer recently changed specs, I do not believe the newly listed specs are correct, since the new one's are extremely high. And when I called the company to ask if the springs are linear or progressive, they told me Linear, turn's out they were absolutely wrong, they are in fact progressive. I show the old specs for those reasons, take it with a grain of salt.

Espelir 350Z springs
381/460 F+22% R+37%
Transfers +15% roll stiffness to rear

Tein Flex (twin tube construction, adjustable dampners
Full-length adjustment and height adjustment for separate setting of the height and spring preload
Spring rates 672/672
Stiffer then oem by F+114% R+98
Transfers +16% roll stiffness to front
Side Note: Extremely high spring rates mean even when the adjustable damping is set as low as possible, you may not find ride quality happiness, several reports of this setups harshness exist Yet a few owner comment’s of a “like stock ride quality” also exist. However given the fact that they use a spring stiffness that’s over 100% stiffer then oem, if ride quality is of concern, either hitch a ride in a car equipped with them or make a different choice. In addition, several review’s have been done by people actually having the original more softly sprung Tein Flex coilovers do not take their comments to mean the same as the one using the current product, the original product specs are listed below under Tein Flex JDM.

Tein Flex JDM specs (can be special ordered est 6-8 weeks delivery)
Full-length adjustment and height adjustment for separate setting of the height and spring preload
Spring rates 560/560
Stiffer then oem by F+78% R+64%
Transfers 14% roll stiffness to front
Side Note: This is the original specs first offered in the U.S. with the Flex, shortly after it’s introduction the specs changed to those listed further above (672/672)

Tein Basic (twin tube construction, non adjustable dampners )
Spring rates 504/504
Stiffer then oem by F+61% R+43%
Transfers +18% roll stiffness to front

Tein SS (twin tube construction, adjustable dampners )
(JDM only at this time. 6-8 weeks delivery, come via ship)
Spring rates 392/314-392 (rear’s are progressive)
Stiffer then oem by F+25% R+15% at peak

Tein CS (Monotube constructionad, adjustable dampners )
Special Note: A comfort ride system compare to HKS LS.They are valved and sprung to fulfill their intended mission of offering up improved ride comfort. More specifically their valving will impact the performance they can deliver. And to add, revalving them is extremely expensive if you find they are too soft for you. If you want performance, pick a different Tein offering or pick a different brand.
Spring rates 392/392
Stiffer then oem by F+25% R15%
Transfers +10% roll stiffness to front

Megan Racing coilovers (monotube construction, seperate height adjustment from preload, 32 level adjustable dampners drop range
Spring rates 560/448
Stiffer then oem springs by F+78% R+28%
At $900 shipped they offer a lot of usefull features you should have in a coilover but normally don't get in their price range.

Nismo S-tune (twin tube construction, uses progressive springs, especially in rear)
350Z/G35 Coupe
Spring rates 448/504
Stiffer then oem by F+43% R+48%

Jic Flta-2 350Z fitment (Monotube construction, adjustable dampning)
Full-length adjustment and height adjustment for separate setting of the height and spring preload
Special Note: This setup is known for it’s extremely harsh steet ride quality, buyer beware get a ride and drive in a Z33 spec setup before you buy.
Spring rates560/672
Stiffer then oem by F+78% R+98%
Transfers +20% roll stiffness to rear
Note: We have seen this setup run with softer 504lbs rear springs , search post’s by FritxMan on my350z

Cusco Zero 1&2 Full-length adjustment and height adjustment for separate setting of the height and spring preload
Zero 1 has non adjustable dampning
Zero 2 has adjustable dampning
Spring rates 560/392
Stiffer then oem by F+78% R+15%
Transfers +63% roll stiffness to front (
Side Note: Pillow ball version reported to transfer excess harshness to the car.

Bilstein PSS coil over (Monotube construction, non adjustable dampners)
Special Note: Mild spring rates, but Bilstein says the dampners are performance valved
Spring rates 370/240-420 (rear progressive)
Stiffer then oem by F +18% R +23% (at peak rear spring rate)
Transfers +5% roll stiffness to rear
Note: be used to offer a 1” sedan drop, cost effective at $1195 shipped vs. Tein Basic’s you get monotube construction and inexpensive revalveability. Though I take issue with it's use of progressive rear springs.

Bilstein PSS9 coilover (Monotube construction, adjustable dampners)
Special Note: Mild spring rates, but Bilstein says the dampners are performance valved
Spring rates 370/240-420 (rear progressive)
Stiffer then oem by F +18% R +23% (at peak rear spring rate)
Transfers +5% roll stiffness to rear
Note: Still not available to my knowledge

HKS LS+ G35 Coupe (Monotube construction, adjustable dampners)
Spring rates 504/448
Stiffer then oem by F+58% R+29% (rear springs are progressive)
transfers 29% roll stiffness to the front
Side Note: Has the unusual distiction of actually being valved stiffer then the same coilover made for the 350Z (though you can only see 350Z LS+’s in the JDM catalog).

HKS LS+ 350Z (Monotube construction, adjustable dampners)
Spring rates 448/448
Stiffer then oem by F +43% R +31%
transfers 12% roll stiffness to the front
Sidenote: Listed on HKS's Japan web site, but not on the US web site. These might actually be our RS coilover, but that's pure speculation on my part.

Spring rates 448/448
Stiffer then oem by F +43% R +31%

Special Note: A comfort ride system

HKS II (Monotube construction, adjustable dampners)
Spring rates 504/504
Spring rates F+61% R+47%
transfers 14% roll stiffness to the front
Special Note: sprung and valved to be HKS’s most aggressive product for the G35/350Z, it is a notch above the RS coil over on the track, compare to Tein Flex and Jic coilovers. May be very tuff to get, said to have been removed from the USDM HKS catalog and is now JDM only, or so I’ve heard.

HKS RS (Monotube construction, adjustable dampning)
Spring rates 448/448
Stiffer then oem by F+43% R+31%
Transfers 12% roll stiffness to the front
Special Note: “Marketed” as HKS’s track coil over with a good street ride.

Spring rates 560/448
Stiffer then oem by F+78% R+31%
Transfers +47% roll stiffness to front
Note: Ok, yes they are expensive. But they are from a exceptional company with a exceptional reputation and posted owner reviews that match.
$2800

KW coilovers Variant's 1,2&3
Monotube construction,
V1=non adjustable dampning,
V2=adjustable damping,
V3=separate adjustability for compression damping AND rebound damping and is the only product of it’s kind at this time.
Spring rates Front 485lbs to 525Lbs Rear: 240Lbs to 548Lbs (progressive springs)
Notes: High progressive rear spring rate spread can be fixed easily with Eibach ESS springs in place of the KW rear springs, cheap fix at only $100 for a pair.

Yes, I fully believe the validity of the following conversation. And we did have a vendor post here about the same subject saying they were told a different drop amount by Tokico. But when the info below was posted he concured that since it came from Ray that it must be accurate since he's very good usually spot on. The only reason why the spec's didn't come from me is because I had been trying over and over to talk to them about the springs I could never get any info, so I gave up. Very happy that someone else got to talk to a tech and get us the answer.

The spring rate on the G35 seems way low, I asked him again and he said that was the info he had, so maybe the ones for the 350 would be the way to go. Both are suppsed to lower 1.2inches, but if you put the one from the 350 on it would be like 1.7 correct? Anyone care to give their opinions on how well this setup might work? Thanks

Damn, I was hoping it was .75 because I think 1.2 might be too much for daily driving with my lip on, I dont want to crack the thing or scrape it on everything. I was trying to decide between this set up and tein basics....

wow great thread

thanks all that info GSedan

im prob in the rare group who wants softer springs in the front. The rear im not fussed, softer or harder. What gives that softer/cushy ride over bumps, lower spring rates or the shock damping?

over the roads i use traveling to work everyday, my car crashes violently over potholes, train tracks, etc, so much so that the whole dash makes a bad plastic sreeching sound, not to mention creating annoying interior rattles

i was thinking rather than buy coilovers, i can just use some springs with stock shocks. But i realise now that wont give me a softer ride

my question is, im steering towards the HKS LS+, does anyone have the specs on these? could these be wound down to be softer in the front than stock?

Question on spring rates:

Does the higher spring rate value = stiffer spring or does it equal the rebound. and what is the difference between rebound and stiffness?

G35sedan

From espelir website I have spring rates of

6.8 F (around 381)
8.2 R (around 460)

with a drop of 15-20mm Front Rear.

http://www.espelir.co.jp/NISSAN%203.html

Why do you believe this information is outdated?

Since these are progressive anyone have any info on initial spring rates?

Avg. Drop: Front/Rear 10mm/10mm

ESPELIR Spring (GT) ACTIVE GT springs. To satisfy the performance driver that wants to extract the best performance out of his vehicle ESPELIR has developed the ACTIVE GT. This spring empowers a higher spring rate than the ACTIVE SUPER DOWN and has a 30% higher grade stroke volume.
350Z / Z33
Year: 2003+
Front - 10mm
Rear - 10mm
Rate: F-6.9, R-9.2

Just ordered these from ProjectNissan. Drop appears to be minor. Read some good reviews.

See Gringott's post above this one. When I called the US importer of the springs this said the springs they had were specifically for the US market and that the specs were NOT the same as shown on espelir's Japan web site. BUT!, the same person also said the springs were linear. But when a member here posted pics of the springs during a install a while back, I could plainly see that they were progressive springs. Now what I want to know, did some springs make it to the US with the old Japaneese specs, one's that are progressive. And are the new spec US only springs linear, at least the Z33 version?

ESPELIR Spring (GT) ACTIVE GT springs. To satisfy the performance driver that wants to extract the best performance out of his vehicle ESPELIR has developed the ACTIVE GT. This spring empowers a higher spring rate than the ACTIVE SUPER DOWN and has a 30% higher grade stroke volume.
350Z / Z33
Year: 2003+
Front - 10mm
Rear - 10mm
Rate: F-6.9, R-9.2

Just ordered these from ProjectNissan. Drop appears to be minor. Read some good reviews.
I have a huge favor to ask. Can you please take at least one picture of the springs themselves? I really need to see them. It will tell me if they are progressive or not. Thanks in advance.

I think I understand why your asking what your asking. When you see a spring spec that list's as follows.

Eibach 350Z progressive springs 1”/1” drop
Spring rates in LBS initial/final front 296/384 initial/final rear 316/421
F +22% R +23% (looking at peak rates only)

You are seeing a true telling of that springs progressive spring rate. The first number is the initial spring rate. When that spring is compressed upwards that portion of the spring binds it's coils and the peak spring rate takes over, known as the final rate.

Rebound is a shock term and deals with the speed or rate that a shock/coilover dampner allows the suspension to return to normal after being compressed.

Gsedan35:

If you want to create a new spring rate / coilover reference thread, I'd be happy to sticky it. It's be a great resource to help avoid future redundant inquiries about this topic. Thanks for compiling everything thus far!

I will take the pictures, not a problem. I might add that ProjectNissan shipped the springs and a Blitz radiator hose within 3 hours of ordering. Now that is fast service.
