Default How Long did your pads last?????

I just hit 20K miles and on the way home from Thanksgiving Dinner and this loud screeching sound came from my left rear wheel . The wear indicator was rubbing against the rotor. I have cross drilled rotors so I'm sure that had to do something with it but I'm curious to see what the average is. Thanks guys.

Default Ceramic or Ferro-carbon?

I've been researching some brake pads. I want to know which pads are better the ceramic pads or ferro-carbon? I saw the Akebono which seem to be a OEM replacement in Ceramic. Will this improve my braking, or should I just go with the Hawk HPS's. I even see that Hawk sells the front Ceramic. What is the difference? Thanks.

Non track Z's tend to wear out the rear pretty quick - the pad/caliper is really too small for the car unless you grandma it around

Thumbs up

I changed the pads this weekend....Finally. The rear pads were the most worn down. They had about 2mm (yes, that's right) of pad left and the noise I heard was the other rear pad which was flat onto the metals sides.

I tracked my car a few times and my front pads faded, I took it to the dealership and they replaced it under warranty (ha! I love freebies!). I totally forgot about the rear pads until they were making noise. I think another 20 miles would've damaged the rotor.

I went with raybestos Ceramic pads for the front and Semi-metallics for the rears. I got the pads for free from a friend at an auto shop who put it on his demo account if I reviewed them for him. So, I'm giving it a shot.

So far they are quite and they have a pretty decent intial bite. Plus after 30 miles of city driving no dust whatsoever. Although, I don't have much to compare it to, so far for the money they definetly outdone themselves. (Free always feels good).

I think they seem to be a decent OEM replacement. Time will tell. Let you know.

Just changed mine to Hawk HPS Pads (F&R), Stoptech lines, and ATE Fluid this weekend at 25k miles. The OEM pads had just under 50% life left and felt strong. I just couldn't handle the brake dust anymore, esp. since I'm ordering my wheels today .

You will hear a screeching sound when braking. The is a metal clip build into the pad. The clip presses against the rotor causing the noise.

Cool, Thanks.

I tend to baby my brakes as much as possible, I usually get 50K to a set..

I use the pettle on the right a whole bunch more.

I don't know about OEMs, but I have been Quoted around $120 for Hawk Pads.. A few folks have said they are not quite as good as the OEM or normal driving or when cold though?

If you attach a counter to the brake light switch you can learn applications per mile. A loud buzzer [or electric shocker] will increase pad life.
