Default Titanium Brakes

http://store.yahoo.com/supra/zmitibrki.html

Titanium Brake kits, only weight 5.4 pounds compared to like 27 pounds stock. thats like 42 pounds from the front two corners, rotational. Think the price is worth it?

A lot of cars have the same bolt pattern. It's the bracket to hold the caliper positioned correctly over the rotor that is the problem for correct fitment.

It sure looks trick, but I have no idea about the manufacture or proven performance.

The advertisement states “With weight reductions of both the rotor and the caliper, we can greatly reduce the amount of un-sprung weight on your vehicle.” Concerning weight reduction, I think that the 350Z would benefit more from lightweight 17-inch wheels.

carbon ceramic = 13,400 dollars from porsche. I'm not that desperate, id rather get a haybusa to tug my car to the finish line. anyways, i know they make, or made the kit for our cars about a year ago. but i was wondering if u got these brakes with lighter wheels, what kind of perks u'd get out of it.

I'd be VERY scared to put a pair of those on a 400 pound motorcycle, let alone a 3200 LB 350Z!

Be careful people.

Or you could just save you money and drive your car into a brick wall yourself. It's cheaper.

Is that really the rotor? Man, it looks dinkier than the ones on a mountain bike.

The rotors scare me. Looks like very little heat capacity.

Handling, braking? You obviously haven't picked up on keep points in this thread when it comes to thermal mass. No road racing series in the world uses titanium as an application - it's purely for bling.

Keep in mind John that all racing series have strict requirement on the materials used. Often these requirement are only for keeping cost down or maintaining the teams performances on equal grounds.

I'm not ready to dismiss a Ti brake system just on a picture. I do think this rotor looks silly but it might work. The specefic heat of Ti is pretty high, so mass need not be so high.

I do wonder what would happen when this rotor starts to wear and get hot ? Ti powder burns very well and very hot ! aha !

I'll stick to plain steel rotors for the time being...

Hey guys we still dont know how this thing will react remember that titanium is one of the strongest metals. Hey maybe it will be a total waste of money and maybe it will be the best brake mod. One thing i would like to see it in would be 14 or 15 inch rotors with 6 or 8 piston calipers that should seriously stop. Will see how it goes.

I dont think they make this application for the Z specifically anymore, the guy who had them said he was selling off the last few pairs as I emailed him a few months ago. I was just hoping that since there are still other cars which these brakes are still in the market for like the RX-8, Supra, RX-7, etc, if I asked around enough I'd be able to get my hands on em. I mean I dont really care how goofy they look, if they make my car handle better, get of the line faster, and stop better, then yea, I'm gonna shell out the cash. Biggest worries are durability, reliability, and performance. Yea the rotors are lighter so they'll catch easier, but will the calipers be able to grip them? I need to get in touch with some Supra owners and ask to see how they perform. If anyone wants to do the same, I'd appreciate the help.

One question, I've been doing a lot of reading at the Corvette Forums, and I was wondering if I were to some way find a way to test before and after results of these brakes, would anyone be willing to pay somewhere near the listed price and do a group buy? Because from the information I've collected so far, titanium brakes may be some of the best performance upgrades for the weekend track/autocross or daily driver but not for serious tracking. I'm just saying that it makes a lot more sense to me to work with braking and suspension than blowing thousands of dollars on b.s. NA mods only adding another 30-40 horse power for the price u pay for the brakes.
