Default Coilover Recomendations

Hey guys i tried to search for a comprehensive coilover review but coudlnt find any. Well anyways im looking to get a set of coilvers for my 06z. Im looking to spend around 2k. Right now im leaning towards the Tanabe sustec pro 7s. But im also up for recomnedations hks/jic/etc etc. My car is mostly a daily driver, dont mind stiffness. I am going to track the car every now and then (1-5times/yr)

From what I have been researching there has been a general consensus on the Zeals, but is it worht the extra 600+ compared to the others. Also i heard that inverted monotube > monotube > twin tube valve design. Tanabes are twin tube and Im wondering if anyone can tell me why the the monotubes are better than the twins. Thansk alot for your input guys.

Cliff notes: 2k, which coilovers?

Tube design as well as experience with the pro7s. I read one thread about this but really did not give too much insight. I think my main question is if it is worth the extra 1k to go with the zeals or just get the pro7s?

Sorry im sure this is a very repetitive thread, i am researching for my brothers car (06 z) i have modded my own suspension (celica) but i would like to hear from the 350z members themselves, as coilover quality is mostly car specific rather than the brand.

I've yet to see anyone use the tanabe...that might tell you all you need to know

HKS RS are the most versatile I have used to date under $2000 - they are impossible to beat imho. I run them on my car, and am very pleased. We're going to be running the GReddy units on our other Z...same overall design as the HKS but with a tad stiffer of a rate. They probably won't be on for a month though as we are waiting on lots of other parts to install at one time

over $2k? Zeal without a doubt

yea its hard to justify spending more than 2k on coilovers for me, dont know why, but the zeals are very tempting. Onlything that turns me off is the hks customer service i have to revavle (they dont have a US hq now do they?) a couple of people on this site are running the tanabes and seem to love it.

Are you goign to write up a review for the greddy? Keep me updated. Sorry new to the 350 scene, so many options compared to my toyota. Thanks for the help guys.

I'm not sure about their customer service but I don't think I've seen anyone need to re-valve or overhaul a HKS coilover yet... just my opinions though...

sorry im not a fan of ksport/megan/d2. Apparently alot of members on the 350 board agrees. They offer some coiloversfor my toyota but the construction is a bit shoddy. I guess i really want to try the tanabes since they bcause they are relatively a new product. I will look more into the HKS.

ANyone wiht zeals after changing from an old/different setup? I really want to gauge superior the zeals are compared to others.

The Sustec Pro SEVEN is a completely new product that had only recently arrived on US shores. Any new product to market is difficult to find information on, until more units and people with them share their experience with them. While we respect and welcome all opinions-- positive and negative alike-- statements like that can be very misleading to consumers, and can be misconstrued as defamatory.

All units that we received quickly sold out to vendors, and the next shipment is arriving in June! This thread has a very informative and positive review of the suspension:

There are several members on my350z with this suspension, we recommend using search.

I don't see it as being defamatory at all, and it was not intended to be so. Fact remains that there just not alot of cars running this system, and as such, there is next to no detailed information about them

Agreed.

The defamation cry was rather ill-conceived.

Perhaps Adam someday we will see a mass coilover test held by
Sport Z Magazine. Let them use the Performance Nissan team driver's for track times and the editor's to score them on the street.

I'd love to participate in a true heads up test

9kg-8kg change - welcome change for the street I suppose, but IMHO, not worth the added expense. You can achieve the same results (more compliant ride) through proper setup of preload and dampening.

The cost was a whopping $145. Not exactly a huge deal.

Without noting that the Sustec Pro SEVEN is new, this statement does lead the reader to believe their is some quality/performance reason people aren't using them. Sometimes the omission of information is misinformation and I can see why Tanabe might be upset.
