I did a search and ask a couple of people and found out that they are a little wierd in the cold.

Is this true? Soon I will be needing a new pair of front and rear pads... non-bremo.

Nissan wants 300 for OEM ones which i think is rediculous. I was wondering how they are working for you guys? Hows the brakedust and how are they in different weather conditions?

I'm not sure if it's one of my posts that you found with comments about Hawk HPS pads, but I PERSONALLY had serious issues with braking power when the pads were not warmed up. My pads were bedded in properly, and they had good bite when hot, but crappy bite when cold.

Other people will tell you they have had no problems with Hawk HPS. I don't doubt them, but that was MY experience.

I highly recommend the Axxis ultimate pads, since I have tried both and these are my picks. Bite much harder when cold but they also seem to fade faster. Axxis ultimate seems to be a true street pad.

A couple weeks ago when I was researching pads, I ran across a number of threads with people trashing the Hawks as having a bad initial bite when cold and/or wet. Like anything else, you'll find some people who love them and others who hate them.

BTW, I went with the Endless SS-S pads. Have only had them on since Saturday so I can't really say much about them. I will be AutoXing them this weekend so hopefully I'll have a better idea of how they feel and stop. So far, no dusting.

I third that. The HPS pads were very low dust but didn't really seem to bite like the stock pads. I had no performance issues with them, just didn't like the feel. I switched to the Axxis Ultimate and would recommend them, although they do dust more than the HPS.

I'm on hawk hps pads now and I have no gripes. the dust is little to nil. the performance is about the same as my OEM's were. and I've never experienced any weak bite when cold (although it rarely dips below 60 degrees here) or wet. however I also don't track my car so I can't really say if they fade after heavy use.

Excellent upgrade over stock, the biggest advantage is way less dust IMO.

I've had them for a while with no problems.

I am about to replace mine as they were fading pretty bad during my last run of an auto-x about 2 weeks ago. Not sure what I am gonna go with at this point.

But for everday driving and dusting, its hard to beat these pads. I have had no problem with them and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio where it gets pretty cold in the winters.

interesting.... ill have to do some more research.

The thing is I only need these brakes for the street. No autox, drag, w/e for me. I just need to get from point A to B (with some fun ofcourse) and must be able to stop lol.


Cost I want something in that range... no more than 100. The Hawks are 60ish so thats perfect. Drake dust isnt that important but must be better than stock. If anyone has any other suggestions I will gladly listen =)

I currently have the Hawks HPS (front only). I've probably had it for 4 to 5 months now.

I rarely see brake dust. My car gets dirtier faster than my wheels. I can go as far as 3 weeks without cleaning them.

However, I do feel less bite on the HPS than the OEM pads. It feels softer.
I'm more cautious of how close I drive behind someone since I can't expect the stopping the power.

I have Hawk HPS on my Brembo's.

Pros-they dust much less than stock

Cons-they squeek every once in a while even after being warm. And the initial bite sucks my a$$. I wont be running these pads again, I dont like how they feel. I actaully experienced brake fade the other day slowing down from around 130....something that I never had an issue with on stock pads.

In my experience, it had nothing to do with temperature. They just never felt like they had the same bite as the stock pads. It doesn't get very cold here, either.

yea i switched to hawk hps after my stocks died. after reading about how well they are. i have had them on for about 6months and i have to they suck ***. the only good thing is barely any brake dust. but i think its because they dont bite at all. never had any problems with the stock pads and i thought these would only give me better stopping popwer. im scared to go as fast as i used to cuz im not sure what my stopping power is going to be.

also mine my reardriv pad squeaks like crazy. very annoying. has been squeaking since day one. i thought it would go away but i am still hearing it like crazy. will definitely go with different set next time. i just cant wait until these wear out.

For brakes, I'd say cold is pretty much anything under about 150F. I'm sure other people will have other definitions.

After a couple of stops, your rotors could easily burn your hand if you were to grab them. It doesn't have THAT much to do with outside temperature, but outside temp CAN make a difference.

For example, I put the Hawks on in the winter, and we were having a few days in Socal that were about 45F. In that weather it takes a couple more stops to get up to warm operating conditions compared to summer, if it is 85F outside.

Look around and you'll find several threads on the Project Mu B-Force and the Endless Vita Nuova pads. From what I read, both were superior replacements for street driving as opposed to the Hawks. The Axxis pads are pretty well regarded too.

They are talking temperature of the braking system, not the ambient temperature outside.
