Default New Toy

Finally broke down and bought a Mini-Mill from Harbor Freight. Now I can just about fab any part I want. My first project is my own Big Brake Kit.

Factory Rotors are 11.65 inches (non-Brembo)
Brembo Rotors are 12.76 - almost 13 inches.

I purchased a set of 4 pot Wilwood Forged Aluminum Calipers and a set of drilled and slotted Brembo size rotors.

= Big Brakes for a great price.

My only complaint is the brake noise with Wilwoods. I'm going to try a set of Hawk HPS pads to see if they are any quieter. Also my mounting brackets are T6 Aluminum and I may try making a set out of steel to see if the extra stiffness reduces the vibration and harmonics that create the squealing.

Next project is the rears....

That's a pretty impressive machine you got there! Did you do these rotors yourself?

Looks great. Good initiative. I have a set of brackets, for use with the forged superlite four piston calipers, (120-8466 - R / L) but my holdup has been locating rotors and hats that will fit.

That is why I went with the Brembo Rotors. They get me close to 13 inches and are available all day long. I didn't have to machine any hats or worry about the park brake when I get to designing the rear set up.

Using the WIL-120-8466L/R for the front and a set of WIL-120-5074 two piston calipers in the rear will get you the same brake bias as the factory Brembo set up. The fronts fit inside the stock 17 inch rims that I'm runnning with some sticky ADVANS.

Not bad for a $550 investment including end mills, clamping kit and other goodies.

No the Rotors aren't worth doing yourself. You can get them drilled, slotted and CAD plated for less than $200 for the front on eBay. I would have to invest in a rotory table, and I'm just not ready for that expense.

I used the Mill to machine a 6061 T6 aluminum mounting adapter for the Wilwood calipers.

I'm impressed with your idea to say the least, I never even thought of Brembo rotors.
