Question Nismo S-Tune or Tein Flex w/Cusco sways???

Just wanted to get some opinions and input on whether to go with the full nismo s-tune suspension (springs, shocks, and sways), or go with the tein flex damps with cusco sways.

I am loving my flex dampers. I do not regret spending the cash for these. The EDFC kicks much ***, and just so damn convenient. I recommend them to anyone who can spare the cash. Plus with the cusco sway bars, damn that would be sick.

Well there isn't much comparision because you have BOTH height and damping adjustability with the Teins and NO adjustability with the NISMO. Being able to adjust ride height is the real big advantage. Depends what you are looking for in a suspension. Killer handling??? or maybe just slight drop????

Which setup has the killer handling, and which has only the slight drop?

You should read this about Raceboy's experience with the Nismo S-tune shock/spring combination.

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=23484

I have the Teins (no sway bars), but I can't really say if they really affect the handling that much. I'm still trying to adjust them to my liking...basically, see which settings makes the Z handle the best. I just re-adjusted my height/camber tonight and the car seems to handle better than my previous setting, but maybe I'm just delusional.

I let someone else (a 10 year Nissan GT racer) drive my car on a roadcourse and he said he honestly did not feel a difference between my car and his stock track model. Honestly, I didn't feel a difference either from when my car was stock. We simply went on the feel and control over the car...we did not compare any laptimes. This was after I had my car corner weighted. The ride is definitely stiffer and the porpoising disappeared, but over all handling didn't seem to change.

So now I'm in the process of configuring my suspension setup to see if I can actually improve the handling (get rid of understeer). I'm still new at the world of suspension tuning, so this may take a while. I don't, however, have any aftermarket sway bars, so I couldn't tell you how much they'd affect the handling with the Teins.

I definitely think (or hope) that once tuned properly they'll change the handling on the Z for the better, so until the next track session, I won't be able to make a good analysis on these coil overs. BUT, when I do make pretty hard turns, the suspension seems to rebound a bit. That may just be my tires with a combination of the rough ground. I'm currently on 3 down from highest for the dampening.

IF you want to get instantly good handling with no tuning required, get the Nismos. Raceboy's car is a proven fact that the coil overs dramatically help the handling. I'm even thinking about selling my Teins and buying the Nismos [S-tune] to save some cash and not have to deal with the constant adjusting of my springs/dampening.

I'll get the S-Tune over the Teins based upon your post, thanks.

I agree with Valuetl that Tein flex give you more options for the money. The Nismo suspesnion is same quaility as Tein, but you get stuck paying for the name NISMO. You get more bang for the buck with Tein, but it also deppends on what you want to do. Do you want just to get rid of the wheel gap or do you want an awesome handing car? If you want just the wheels gap gone might want to try Eibach. Low cost with good results.

just my 2 cents...

thanks,
Greg

If you think you get stuck paying for the Nismo name, I suggest you ready raceboy's analysis on his g-attack spring/shock combo.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that with just the Teins, they would make handling awesome, but I also haven't had the chance to adjust these to the best setting. Do you have Teins on your Z?

I wouldn't go with Eibachs simply because they are not matched with the shocks. Un-matched springs for shocks may result in a short life-span for the stock shocks. Un-matched springs may also result in an even more bouncy ride.

Oops, I meant spring/shock combo as opposed to coil-overs for the Nismos.

hfm, be sure to get the sway bars too .

the nismos dont cost anymore than the teins, and as far as handling, i hear the nismos work great after reading raceboys post...integrate said htat he doesnt notice too much of a difference in handling with the teins, whereas raceboy siad the z was totally transformed into a true track car with the s-tune setup...i think my decision is heavily leaning towards the nismo setup

call me ignorant, but does anyone know what does "porpoising" mean? Any picture examples?
I couldn't find it in dictionary.com either...

I think it means the "bounce" on our car! The spring rate is too high, Doesn't match up well with our stock shocks, thus the "bounce".
