Multiple links refer to the arms of the independent suspension. Really saying multiple link doesn't mean a whole lot. That is about as ambiguous as saying that a truck has multiple axles. Is it a light duty pickup, a dump truck, a medium duty hauler, etc etc. A multi link suspension could use struts or shock absorbers... Ultimately, either one performs the same function of damping out periodic vibration.
The word strut simply means that the suspension's damper connects the steering knuckle to the body rather than connecting one of the other, pivoting, suspension arms or "links" to the body. That would simply be called a shock absorber.
We'll just have to wait and see what the multiple link suspension consists of on the production car.
