Sexy Time Coilovers - big pics
These are Ohlins Japan (Inpul) shocks, which are not the "real" Ohlins made in Sweden. Inpul, has a licensing agreement with Ohlins to make shocks to their own design (not Ohlins) with the Ohlins name on it.
I am sure these are nice shocks, especially for a street car, but they do not share anything with the Ohlins race shocks.

Because the rear dampers are attached directly to the hub, as opposed to the lower control arm, inverting them makes them more durable to the side loading that occurs in a turn. This is very common for strut suspensions due to similiar mounting.

going to be awhile beore the car is done as there is ALOT involved with this one, but yes, we will absolutely have a full photo shoop upon completion!
As far as benefits vs Inverted vs Non, there are pluses and minuses on both sides

Just to clear up any confusion
Yes these come from Ohlins USA.
Are they sourced from Japan by Ohlins USA? Yes - as are all the Ohlins street/light track coilovers for Japanese production cars (including the R/T, and the Flag series for various cars like the Evo, Subaru, etc) use Ohlins components (needles, pistons, etc) from Sweden. The components are assembled in Japan by the Japanese distributor for Ohlins (Carrozzeria), just like Ohlins USA assembles components for their customers. Ohlins USA not only does motorsport R&D, servicing, and one off setups for motorsport customers, they also do the full product support, rebuilding/revalving, etc for all Ohlins components.
Quite a number of Japanese firms use Ohlins as their "go to" supplier - Mine's and Impul among them. What, if any, internal changes are commissioned by these companies is anyone's guess. Many times suspension firms will work with a retailer on creating their own "spec" setup Many other times, companies will have you believe their setup is a unique, spec'd setup, when in reality it's nothing more than the std version in a fancier box. Co-branding is very common in any manufacturing based industry. Again, only way to know any differences is have ever variation tested on a shock dyno.
None of this is really the point here though. These are complete Ohlins units, sourced through Ohlins USA, for the Z
and we are looking forward to using them in our car. If they are anything like their setups we've run extensively in the Evo and Subaru, they are going to provide another high quality, dual purpose setup for those who want to do track days Sunday and drive to work Monday

If you sell any kits to anyone in NorCal, I would be happy to do some real world comparison with my koni's at any local road course. We can use my tires on both cars and data log the sessions with a GPS unit.
Too bad the ohlins are not double adjustable (independently).

we've got one customer in Italy who will be installing these tomorrow, and I think he has a track day Sunday, so hopefully we can get his full review
