are megan racing coilovers worth a damn? 900 bucks with some nice stiff 5-600 pound spring rates sounds nice, but iunno if its not too good to be true? Should i just go with tokico D-specs or some Koni sports?

Like a lot of inexpensive coilover products they are underdampned. I found that purchasing softer front 448lbs springs for $100 brought them much closer to proper dampning control even if the softer rates did deminish peak performance in the end. Which was their undoing for me, so I recently sold them. I would not run them with the stiffer 560lbs springs, to the point that when I sold mine I refused to offer the 560lbs springs at all.

I can tell you that the Koni's and D-specs will offer better dampning. But, the Megan setup uses higher spring rates as you know. So, if you go with Koni or Tokico, you'll have to sacrifice that spring stiffness in the process. You'll have to decide if that's a compromise you can do or if it's too much of a step backwards. Having walked my car up in spring rate testing where I ran several different combos, I prefer higher rates that lowering springs don't come close to offering (Nismo T2 springs excluded or course).

I'm currently on Koni coilover setup in the front with 560lbs springs and 427lbs springs in the rear. Catch is, I can't go lower then oem height in the front. That's ok, I'll be ordering a different setup in the front that will fix that.

No that would make the problem worse. According to BcRacing the people who actually make them for Megan Racing, the setup has a +or- 2Kg rate range. I can tell you because of how Megan spec'd the valving they do NOT have a +2Kg range.

 

gotcha. So what would i be best suited changing to? the driving style where i need the suspension is more or less a Touge style ("the dragon" in Robinsville north carolina is the local playgroundi go to). So i need something stiff. preferably for under a grand, i was looking at TcKline Koni sports with nismo T2 springs but that setup seems to be hard to get ahold of and kind of expensive

 

For the same money as megan coilovers you can go with Tein Basics. I think they are 9kg/9kg spring rates and are damped quite well although the dampening is not adjustable. Should be stiff enough for your needs but yet not punishing for those less than smooth roads.

I have the megan coilovers, I like them, I track them. Good stuff for the price. I could go into details but Gsedan35 has given you an excellent answer already. There are better coilovers, for sure, but not at this price point.

As for the Megan Racing coilovers......

I have tried these for the company along with every other product they make for the 350Z / G35 and some other cars.

The coilovers are great for the price range, they are decent for what they are and for below $900 you can't go wrong. I can think of a few other coilovers in this price range that are inferier to them.

Sooooo, is there a better coilover on the market, of course, but these 32 way adjustable Megan Racing coilover are made of great quality and are not bad at all.
