How long should (did) your OEM brakes last?

Default How long should (did) your OEM brakes last?

My brakes started squealing slightly at around 24-25k miles. This past weekend, the decibel level probably tripled, and the squealing was occuring even while not braking, so I had the pads replaced and rotors turned. My mileage now is around 34k. Is this normal? Seems like the brake pads should've lasted longer than that. I don't track the car, and very rarely do I even run it hard. The fronts were completely worn down, and the rears had about 10% left.

I thought it might have been because of the weight (I've got a Roadster), but after thinking about it, I remembered I used to have a Jaguar XK8 convertible which outweighed the Z by probably 1000 pounds, I never had to replace the pads on it (sold when it had around 40k).

It was kinda scary (the very loud squealing, loss of confidence, and loss of stopping power), so rather than wait for brakes to be shipped to me and do them myself, I allowed Nissan to rape me ($400!). I guess next time, as soon as the squealing starts, I'll go ahead and order some after-market pads.

Try finding some oem brembos for the "Z", that should Be all you need and then some. They will work fine even if you auto-x a little.

Im at 22k and Id say I still have about 50% of the pads left. I drive mostly highway though so that may be why. I noticed after I drive it hard, and use the brakes aggresively, the fronts start to squeal. Nothing some brake cleaner doesnt fix though. If its squeeling and you have barely any pad material left, it may be time to change them.

rear pads are still good at 55,000 miles. I changed the fronts around 20,000 miles b/c I couldn't take the dust but they had plenty of pad left.

I hate the dirt from the OEM's. Replaced the pads on both my Z's. Couldnt have been happier when the damn squealing went away, and I dont have to worry about cleaning the wheels every 2 days.

What replacement pads did you use to get rid of brake dust & squealing?

replaced my oem front pads at 16k, could have gone for at least another 5k miles on those...replaced them cuz they squeaked a little at the light. The rears had over 60% left. Recently replaced all four oem rotors at 27K miles with R1 concepts.... nice stuff for the buck.

Replaced mine at 42,000. Still had a little front pad left, lots of rear. Front rotors were getting very worn though. No vibration, just had a huge lip on them. Replaced all pads, and front rotors.

My Brakes/ Rotors only lasted me for 22000 miles. I changed my set-up to Powerslot/ Project Mu B Force. There is still dust but not like the OEM pads.
