Default Rusty Rear rotors.. How to shine them up?

Maybe I should have posted this in the DIY section but...

My rear discs are looking a little rusty, I scrubbed them good yesterday & tons of ****e came off of them, yet parts are still sorta brownish & I'de like to shine them up or .. something?

Anyone know how to do this? Besides buying new ones!

I heard of people painting the discs, but seems like that would **** your brake pads up or something

Not the way a mechanic would recommend to do it, but you can half-pull the parking brake to get the rear pads to drag, and then drive around for a little bit. Once they wear down past the surface rust, they should be shiny again.

Haven't looked at the rear brake setup on a Z much have we ?

e-brake acts on a drum inside the rotor. I doub't the OP wants to shyne the inside of that...

Cover your rotors with oil, that'll make them shiney!

no don't put oil on your rotors please...

Just use your brakes on a regular basis?

I just bought zinc-coated rotors that are holding up great. During my pad bed-in procedure, the zinc rubbed off of the pad contact area, but has remained everywhere else preventing rust so far.

I would say when it comes time to get new rotors, buy zinc-coated ones. For right now, you could mask off the pad contact area on both sides, sand down the current rust, and spray a hi-temp engine enamel coating (1200 F - made by duplicolor). That should hold up to the temperature that rotors can get to. I was about to do this, and looked for a hi-temp clear, but ended up settling on a silver color that wouldn't look too much different than the cast iron of the brakes.

If you do this, PLEASE ensure that you don't over spray onto the pad contact area.

Nevermind. I'm retarded. I shouldn't write responses first thing in the morning. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
