Default Question about Stock Shocks with 350z H-techs

Hey guys,

I am kind of confused here. It says that you cannot re-use the piston rod top lock nut. Do you have to? I thought you didn't...?? Can someone help me out here?

Also, did you guys take out the bump rubber when you guys installed the springs??? I'm looking at the "recommendation value" and it says that i will need to do the cut type "A" which is 1.2 inch. Do you guys think I will need to do this? Thanks!

Technically, lock nuts with silk inserts are one time use. After the first use, the insert is damaged and the integrity of the locking feature would be comprimised. However, I reused mine without problems. If you are worried, use lock-tite thread sealant. Also, any Nissan parts department should have them in stock.

Agree with what Lawndart said I do. Can add that I have no issue with reusing them.

On the bump rubber question. Their are a number of things about the 350Z that differ for them when it comes to running 350Z H-tech springs. One, they lower the Z less then they do on your G35 coupe, so they don't need to consider cutting the bump stops. Two, the front bump stops on the 350Z lack the soft foam rubber insert and the rear foam insert is only 1/4" tall at best and isn't work touching. Thirdly, the 350Z oem shocks are shorter in body length and piston rod length.

IMO, when finances permit replace your oem non sport coupe shocks with Tokico D-spec shocks. Not a recommendation that has anything to do with wearing out the oem units, it's about proper or better control of the stiffer springs you've added.

The front is not as wide as the rear. The front also has this rubber thing on it.
