Talking tanabe gf210 + stock struts or tokico d-spec

was gonna put on some gf-210's. can anyone tell me their experience with new springs and stock struts. Although i could pay for the struts right now, i wouldn't mind have an extra $500 if i keep the stockers. I have 26,000 miles on an 05' and wanted to see if i can get away with stockers for another 2 years?

Better if u change them out, eventually you'll have to do it anyways and when you put your car back to stock you'll want some decent shocks. Why wait and pay for the install again + buying oem shocks later on? Plus with tokico's you'll get waay better performance.

i always wondered about adjustable struts. Is it necessary for adjustability. or can I buy some other aftermarket gas shocks that have no dampening adjuster that are suitable for daily driving and handle lowering springs?

Well, if you can find some non adjustables let us know if you like them. The most popular adjustable ones for the z are : tokico, koni yellow, and i've heard of bilstein (not sure if it's adjustable). Then you could go for the coilovers (tein basic is non dampening adjustable but height adjustable), full blown - jic, tein tanabe, etc.

Since your gonna be taking the wheels and stock suspension out, might as well get the tokico d-spec and install them at the same time. If you're getting them done at a shop, you'll save money on the install by not doing it twice.

Yep..I should of done this too..your stock shocks will hold up but I recommend you getting the tokicos-d if your using the GF-210.... I have the GF-210's on my Z with the stock shocks...I will change them out for some coil overs (tien, Jic flt) when I get all 4 of my brake rotors changed.

As I replied to you in another thread. GF-210's do not spec out to be much stiffer then your oem front springs and are actually softer in the rear then your oem springs. A case to send you shopping for aftermarket shocks cannot be made unless you specifically want the better dampning performance that better shocks will provide. Better shocks DOES NOT MEAN KYB GR2 or Tokico HP, those are nothing but oem replacements. Better mean's Bilstein sport, Koni sport and Tokico D-spec.

Mine as well do it now. I have GF210 with stocker, and the ride quality went from nice and smooth with no freeway hopping to VERY harsh and uncomfortable now. I've had them for more than 15K miles now.

Few post earlier it been said the effect was opposite... smoother then stock... and I just bought GF's 210 and i think since the drop is only 1 inch front and 1.2 rear the difference shouldn't be too big... i had a 04 celica before the Z and i war rolling on B+F's with 2 inch drop all the way around and it was actually really smooth.... and i had the KYB AJX's... very nice shocks!

IMO, if you like the height after the drop, just get it with the shock and amek it a combo. If you get some awesome shocks and combine it with springs, the handling is pretty good.

If you don't like the drop height, just save up for a coilover so you can adjust ur own height.

Tanabe GF Springs are great BTW

cant do this. if i get shocks as well, might as well go for the tein basics, almost same price. so thats why just getting the springs is quite a bargain as opposed to the tein set up.

Yes it's smoother than stock FOR A WHILE.
Once your shocks start giving in it'll be a rough *** ride haha.

^^^ lol yeah that sucks... so by having some nice shocks, it'll make the car bounce smoother?!? ... cuase i think it doesnt matter what kind of shocks you got as you said, if the springs settle in, it'll be one rought *** ride...

yeah if getting the tanabe springs means getting new upgraded shocks as well, might as just fork out a couple extra hundred for the tein basics i guess. NE one had problems with the basics for normal street use?

Nono..springs will settle in about 500 miles. The ride will be smooth until the stock shocks start to wear out.
Getting appropriate aftermarket shocks will prevent that..get some Tokicos.

After reading a lot about about the Tein Basic, the GF210/Tokico D-Spec would be a much better route.
