Question tein basic owners

how is the ride on these coilovers? compared to stock? I was looking to buy these but was wondering if these were harsh compared to stock? i want a daily driver and decently smooth ride or should i stick to springs?

i guess its either the basics or slapping on the gf210's on the stock struts (will save about $650$) will probably flip a coin.

Either way your going to need front and rear camber kits ~600ish . . . i've had bad luck in the past going the cheap route with suspension. Do the basics and a camber kit and enjoy peace of mind.

You are going to flip a coin to choose between two substantially different setups with very different performance and ride characteristics?

The Basics are a great complete package for the money. I've been happy with mine for 2 years.

the ride of the tein basics with stock wheels are just as bouncy/rough as stock 03's suspension with it being near 1" drop. If i were you, i'd get the springs or save up for something that's adjustable. I riden a z with the HKS coilovers..they are so nice and smooth.

Knowing how the 03/04 oem suspension rides, have to say that's about the most damning thing I've seen said about Basics since I started paying attention to reviews since 2003. Though reading between the lines in those review's done over time on Basics, dampning performance has alway's been somewhat in question to me. Thinking out loud, would be interesting to see how you felt if you dropped the car some more to take out some front spring preload. 1" is of course Tein's recommend ride height for the setup however.

yeah the car was dropped about .8-.9 . The more it was dropped, the worse it felt. This all being said after breaking it in for couple of months. At first, everything suspension is "smooth", wait until everything is settled, they are pretty horrible. I mean, i dont' expect it getting better than stock being lowered, but i know there are much better out there. The gf210's on stock 03 shocks felt better than the basics. That's the truth.

I love my Tein basics, pretty predictable and confidence inducing on turns. It's also not as bouncy or jittery as the stock springs on turns and launches.

Aren't Tanabe gf210's progressive springs?

well, the handling is better of course, but i'm talking about ride quality. If you are going for handling only, it's ok but if you want a nice, smooth ride as well, basics aren't it.

thats what i mean. i dont want a stiff ride. but i think i will get the gf210's for about two years then save up for something better than the tein basics. Kinda crazy how everyone has different experiences with their springs. By the way, i am running on 19" te37 so from what i understand, the gf210's would not be as stiff as the tein basics?

I've looked into it pretty deeply . . . the general consensus seems to be you can't drop more than .8 inches without needing camber adjustments.

If you can change a tire, you can adjust the Tein basics.

You just jack it up, take off the wheel for access, then spin the two rings up and down to your desired height. Tein coilovers come with two prong/ tools that move the rings up and down.
