Hey all,

Figured I'd post up some pictures and impressions of a new suspension that I installed on my Z.

Over the weekend I installed (with the help of Dave and Juan at Function Tuned) the:

BC Racing BR-Type Coilovers for the 350z.

First impressions:

Packaged really well, and looking at the components on the suspension and I'm impressed!





30 levels of adjustability:


Nice touch for this price range.. A bracket for your brake lines / etc

Install is pretty strait forward:



Remove old (worn out) suspension



install shiny new BC Racing Coilover in front and rear :

Height adjustment is very strait forward, we adjusted the height on them coilovers to where we wanted them. The rear is set all the way down, but due to all the weight reductions on the car ( CF rear hatch with lexan being a biggie) the rear sits a little higher than what I thought it would.. but no complaints here. Also to note: The design of this kit allows FULL shock travel, no matter what height you set it to.. VERY impressive.

You should also have the car aligned as soon as your ride height is set.







If you really want to go the extra mile have the car corner weighted.


Driving Impression

Wow, around town, on dampening set to full hard.. nice.. it feels like the car is on a razor. Its firm .. for sure. very little dive in corners. I feel even more confident on entry, and exit of corners. Wow.

Dampening set to on full soft... its surprisingly comfy, and compliant. I don't think I'd run this setting much since I don't mind a 'rough' ride. Since my Z is a weekender I don't think I'd use this setting unless I was on a reallllly long trip.

Dampening set to about the middle 8 all around. This is almost the perfect compromise, firm.. but not over-bearing, and not too 'soft'. Unless I am doing a track day, or going out to have some sideways fun.. this is where I will probably leave the car. I'm going to do some more 'fine tuning' with the dampening a bit more to see f I can come up with my perfect 'street' numbers.

I'm sure folks on this board will give me a look since BC racing is not a 'brand' that you hear allot about. (think JIC, Tien, etc) and some JDM ****** will shun it. I say, if you want a suspension, that does not break the bank, this is it.

Very nice. Glad Dave and Juan at FT got these on for you and Pete at BC is a great guy. I was able to meet up and talk with Dave and Juan this weekend at GT Live and Pete from BC has one of our built motors going in his car. I am glad to here your driving impressions of this car and that you are pleased with the outcome.

What are the spring rates and price? Their website is a little weird when I try to look up spring rates...it says 62.200.18?

Hopefully i will have a set before my next day at the track , 50k miles on my stockers and i believ they are on the way out.

 

I think I am going to get a set of these. I heard to replace them its 90 a side?? cheap... HKS is 300 a shock plus down time and shipping

And they match my gold advans better

pricewise what are these comparable to?

 

I know Intense carries them and so does RAVSPEC (yes they are a vendor).....I am running the same coilovers on my Z and even my builder was blown away by the quality and performance of these.....pete is a great guy and deserves your hard earned money...oh yeah u get a bad *** coilover for that money too....

 

My fav part is the extensions to adjust the dampeing for the rear coilovers....this allows you to make adjustments in the trunk w/o removing plastic panels....sheer eff'n genious

 

They look to come from the same factory as a handful of other coil-overs in this price range.

Your car looks nice. The whole front end just erupts into a giant orgy of carbon fiber kickassery. Very nice.

My friend told me that BC comes from the same company as Apexi and Megan coils. Supposedly, it's wide known on the Evo forums.

BC's market for subies and evo's is huge....actually a review on evo-m and a ride in a 240sx led me to buy a set....

When i purchased mine I addressed issues of these looking the same as other brands. Knowing about how companies outsource products I chose to ask a lot of questions. As part of a non-compete, specifics (ie: brand names) were excluded but it is pretty simple. Most companies hire a company such as BC to produce their products. They do this becuase BC makes a lot more coilovers then people assume and their quality speaks for itself. When companies such as Megan contact these companies they usually choose to have parts designed to their specs using materials and production that allow them to make a prodcut from which they will brand and profit off of. Beleive it or not most brakes (rotora, JBT, greddy, megan etc) are all indeed made by the same manufacturer but to the specs of the branding company. BC is a huge company that even produces parts for OE. They stand behind their products (i know cause i asked about stiffer spring rates and they walked me thru the whole pick and choose process). BC's branded coilovers are the best they offer (parts and production wise) and they offer them at a rate which will allow them to sell (they need to sell coilovers to make $ right?) when compared to many of the brands they may even make (talking hypothetically here). I feel you cannot go wrong with these and neither does the builder of my V8 swapped Z.

I see mike likes them and I assume as soon as more people give them a shot they will be a huge success....

 

$95 per coilover= replacement after 1 year warranty runs out...
