Careful like all remanned parts, they are less than stellar in remanning hard parts [just seals are usually changed] so the pinion gear may be worn vs a brand new unit.

Did you change wheels and tire sizes? Extra stress on wheel bearings and rack.

Sucks being one of few that have had this happen. Well with free replacements i should be fine.

R@Ps seldomly go out. As a rule they will start to leak.

Very important though is to flush your system before installation so 100% Virgin Fluid is introduced in the new unit

I had mine go bad with less miles than yours - too many track excursions I think (or off track as was sometimes the case). I also had already replaced inners and outers once. No leaks on my rack, just alot of play to the point where it made noise (little knocks) - it got really annoying

When we did my motor build, I took the opportunity to replace the rack and also fit the Tein inners and outers, along with all new hardware, new brackets and the little cushions too - its better than new now. I ended up buying a very very low mileage rack, and then got new hardware from the dealer.

What kind of sounds was your steering rack making?

it was making clunking noises as I turned the wheel - started off by replacing the inner and outer tie rods, no change. The noise turned out to be inside the rack itself. Once I replaced the rack assembly, and problem was solved.

Damn I think this is what my problem is. How much do steering racks go for if you don't mind me asking?

rather than guessing, I would recommend having a competant shop take a look and diagnose the problem for you

My rack is leaking from one of the fittings. Vatozone quoted me $400 after I returned the core.

I'm hoping I can find a seal kit rather than replacing the whole thing.

Definitely. I was just trying to get some sort of idea of pricing just in case.

Mine went out and had some very weird noises prior to taking it in. noticed my power steering fluid level was getting continually low so I took it in. turns out it was a seal that had failed and ended up having to replace the entire rack. My Z only had 29,000 miles at that point also. to fix, it costs 1300 I believe. not fun when out of warranty....

I will have to chk prices but a R@P as a rule, I can buy, with exchange for tops, 150.00. Dont hold me to this --I haven't bought a Z R@P but 50 others. Last week I got one for a late Stang --302 blown, Hi Perf susp. and it was 125.00
