many coilovers call for retention of the stock rubber conical upper "mount" for the rear springs

Also does the rubber mount on the bottom of the stock spring have to be mounted on the aftermarket coils? I'm assuming so and that is what I did.
it won't matter because your rear damper is not height adjustable, since the Basic's are only 1 way height adjustable. So rideheight is a function of spring preload. The rear rubber piece does get reused with the Basic's per the instructions that are included with the kit (ZO4 just posted the link as well). If you find the rear height is not adjustable enough for you, you can also trim the rear rubber conical piece as well (at flat round side, not the cone side), and height will additionally drop by the amount you trim it.

and the tein install instructions even show this to be true. seems someone needed to know WTF they were talking about before posting worthless information (not Z1 of course)

Well, I don't have the basics. I have the zero-2s, but assuming it is the same with cusco as well? But I was wondering if there is a problem with adjusting the rear spring collars with the spring bucket connected/the damper connected? This is also while the car is jacked up and the wheel removed. Sorry to sound confusing. Thanks

No, Zero 2 are different. The damper body is threaded as well as the spring collar, meaning they are 2 way height adjustable. With a Zero 2, any change you make to the spring collar, you must also make to the damper. This way the stroke of the shock is in sync with the spring. So if you take 1 inch of height away on the spring, you must also make that same 1 inch change to the damper body itself

That's what I figured, but I tried to loosen the collar on the damper itself to lower but it seems to be so damn tight I can't even loosen it.
