Default Tech info: Picking the right brakes for your Z/G35

Since we couldn't find a good post regarding brakes for all different styles of driving, we hope this post will fill in the gap.

First, a quick start with the basics. If you have a 350z/g35, you have one of th e following brakes:
  • Maxima Brakes (03-05 350z)
  • Q45 Brakes (06+ 350z)
  • Brembo (Track package)
  • Aftermarket BBK

Depending on what brakes you have, coupled with what you do with the car will dictate how you should upgrade.

Therefore, we've broken it down into 3 categories below:

Performance street:
This is the category most people fall into. You want more brake performance, less dust and good rotor wear. Fortunately, the selection here is excellent.

Some pads to chose from:
  • Hawk HPS
  • Hawk Performance Ceramic
  • SP Performance Street Plus

Maximum streetable performance for AutoX/HPDE:
If you fall into this category, you are actively driving your car in events such as AutoX or a track day with your local car club. You want maximum performance but still want to be able to drive around on the street with the same pads.

Some pads to chose from:
  • Hawk HP+
  • Porterfield R4s
  • Ferodo DS2500 (front only)

Full out track pads for Track days
If you fall into this category, you are actively driving your car in events such as AutoX or a track day with your local car club. You want maximum performance but still want to be able to drive around on the street with the same pads.

Some pads to chose from:
  • Hawk Blues (rear only)
  • Porterfield R4
  • Ferodo DS3000 (front only)

More info to follow!

Thanks,

-G
