Default sway bar questions

I understand that sway bars are used to adjust oversteer/understeer characteristis of the car, I'm just a bit confused as to how they actually affect handling. I am under the impression that making the rear stiffer than the front will cause oversteer, while making the front stiffer than the rear causes understeer. Is this right?

Also, does that mean that having both set to the stiffest setting results in the car breaking loose easier during turns, and setting them to the softest setting helps the car maintain traction on turns? Sorry if these are noob questions, just looking for some help. thanks.

those are general rules of thumb that do not always correspond to the real world

you have adjustable swaybars....I'd recommend starting with the middle settings on front and rear (2nd softest setting on front, middle setting on rear), and adjusting from there based on the feedback the car is giving you. Don't forget that adjusting tire pressure also has a very large affect on turn in response, and corner exit speed/traction as well.

Those are the settings I have right now, so if I change both the front and the rear to one setting stiffer, does that mean the car will more likely lose traction on a turn assuming all other conditions stay the same?

the stiffness of the swaybar really does not determine when the car loses traction
