Default Rear Shock Mount Gasket

I am installing a new set of shocks on my car and wanted to buy a new set of the gaskets that go between the upper shock mount and the car body. The dealership looked up the price and they were $22.00 each! I said no thanks. My OEM gaskets were made out of a paper like material and were all shrunken and curled up the last time I swapped shocks so I just left them out. I suppose they are just there to seal out water and exhaust fumes from entering the car. Does everyone usually just leave these out?

Just make your own, gasket paper for $1.99 and trace with a hobby knife.

I was thinking of cutting some out of UHMW plastic sheet.

Mine looked like that too figured it was normal and just swapped them on to my new setup, I would not worry about it.
