Default Brake Problem

I get a sound like a low grinding noise when nearing a stop. The guy at Nissan told me the pads on the Z crystalize on the rotors and this causes this noise. He offered to machine( I think thats what he said, or mabye turn them) the rotors, but said its a problem that would come back.

I have 8000 miles on my car and the problem just started. He recommended I buy some ceramic pads and he would install them at no charge.

Anyone have this problem? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Question brakes

I have the same sound, and I only have 4,000 miles on my Z. And I have had the sound for a while now.

Did he look at the brakes before making a recommendation?

I recently replaced my pads and learned that part of the 'bedding' procedure involves heating the rotor + pads so that a thin film of pad material is laid out on the rotor. It can be uneven and this can cause brake noise. One can repeat the pad bedding procedure to see if that helps.

I had absolutely no problem with the stock pads (don't ask why I changed them). When I removed them, I was surprised that they were in good shape and had a great deal of pad remaining. (13,000 miles).

I would check around before buying 'ceramic' pads. btw I do like the Porterfield 4RS pads which I put in at 13K miles. Others have posted that they are satisfied with their new pads.

I wish I was a little more knowledgable about things of this nature. Up to this point, I have never had this problem with my previous cars(all hondas and one lexus).

He basically told me that the nissan pads were crap. I have dealt with this guy on other issues and found him to be honest. I am going to drive it for another week or so to see how aggravating the noise is. It will probably drive me crazy.

Thanks
