Default Caliper upgrade on my 13" rotors.. Porsche calipers maybe?

I have on my car now the Racingbrake.com 13.1" brake upgrade which uses the OEM caliper... It was on the car when I bought it.

http://www.racingbrake.com/350Z_non_...1-311-0-01.htm

I don't really want to sell it and buy OEM brembo's particularly and a buddy of mine with a mill has made adapters for Wilwood calipers for a buddy of mine with a hybrid brake setup on his Miata. So I can get the adapters made pretty easily.

I was thinking about picking up Porsche Brembo calipers and putting them on my 13.1" rotors. I guess I have a few questions regarding this.

Does anybody know of a rotor I can use that will fit with 332x24mm (13.1" x 0.9") rotors? Boxster S / 996 Brembos are rated for a 320mm rotor only but upto 30mm rotor width. So the thickness is ok, but they are not ment for such a large rotor, will that be a problem? The stock calipers are not ment to run on a 332mm rotor either but I guess the way these rotors are setup they do.

Also what about the brake balance of the car? Will adding a caliper like this effect the braking of the car and make it unstable or somehow negatively effect the ABS or some other problem I may be over looking? Maybe this is just to far out there to even bother?

I don't want to buy a $3000 brake upgrade when I have the rotor already if I can simply add a Porsche Brembo caliper, so please don't reply with "just buy a BBK etc..."

I'm not too sure about the front calipers, but you may just want to see what the caliper and rotor specs are for the standard 911, boxster etc. The basic porsche caliper may have a narrower rotor thickness which would be a smarter choice, but I'm not positive. IN actuality I want to say the rotor thickness might be the same, but again I'm not sure.

Here I actually just found these, probably your best bet unless you find them somewhere else cheaper, but these at least will be refurb'd and painted.

They're using them on 312mmx25mm rotors so they should work for you so long as you can get brackets made.

i'm not a brake designer but i would think you need other specs like piston area in the caliper. calipers aren't like windows plug and play

I can't believe I forgot this, but racingbrake has a caliper upgrade for those rotors. It is listed here:

OE-Caliper upgrade

Yeah I emailed them and they showed me that. But that 650 is each caliper so 1300 bux for a set. I honestly don't really wanna spend that type of coin on brakes when I'm not tracking the car and don't really need it. The breaking power of the car with the setup currently on the car is pretty heavy duty as it is not. I don't need anymore.

I guess I was willing to do it if I could pull it off for a descent price. Many guys have used the Porsche calipers on a lot of VW products, it's pretty common, but they are using 12.4" rotors so they work like a charm with an adapter. My rotors are just too big so it leaves me without any options but to buy their setup.

I don't care $1300 worth about having big red calipers to be honest. A few hundred bux with some custom made adapters sure, 1300 bux plus shipping and duty (into canada) no thanks lol. Not worth it, thats practically 10% of the value of the car.

$1300 is a great deal, but I guess only you can quantify that for yourself...If you are happy with the your braking performance than i would leave it alone.

My guess if you were to still try to persue the porsche calipers, you could find a used set of Boxster calipers, typically with the faded paint on them for maybe $300, another $100 to spray paint them red and replace the seals and other hardware, $100 for new front pads, $100 for new lines, and at least $150 for custom brackets...$750...for something not made for your car, not new and not engineered.

You could always try to seek out an OEM brembo set at least, then sell your rotors and just accept the loss, but enjoy the OEM fit and performance.
