Default help install GTSpec strut bar

OK I got the front GTSpec strut bar kit. Brackets installed fine I can get one side of the bar in then when trying to bolt in the other side it's a little short so can't get the bolt through. Is there a trick to this I don't know, I've seen plenty of them installed but could I have a defective bar? Please help

loosen the brackets from the strut mounts, get the bolt through the both sides of the bar, tighten down the brackets.
