Totally dumb idea...sorry.

think to yourself.....do you like the way the car handles now....just want to lower it???

well think again......this car is like a scale......cut down the rear springs and the weight transfer will go to the back of the car and the front steering will get all light and sloppy.

if you MUST go for springs...make sure they drop the same front and rear...if you get springs that drop lower in the rear than the front....well there goes your weight transfer.....

believe me...i did that stupid spring mount mod in the rear and i TOTALLY REGRET IT! no amount of shock or sway bar adjustments will make it right...i had to order 2 new spring mounts.....

just know what you are doing...the Z isn't a Honda civic....you cant just lower it and expect it to be better.....you are about to learn a lesson in suspension my friend

Can you please elaborate?

BTW, next time you post, read the entire thread. The OP got the message and the inevitable ensuing disaster was averted.

Note to all.

I have decided to get rid off the 20's and purchase new 19's. I went against what I wanted and purchased on price and not on what is needed...19 inch rims. As far as for the springs, I will go with Eibach Pro Kit, equally lowered front and rear.

You have all opened my eyes and will purchase tomorrow if all possible.

Once again, I thank you all for your help.

All the best!!

1. I did read the entire thread

2. cutting the rear spring mounts to even out the car regardless of using stock or aftermarket springs will transfer the weight and stiffness to the rear of the car.

Tuning the Z's suspension is like a see saw....you can only go one way or the other....you would think that cutting a measly half inch from the rear spring mount would be harmless right?

Wrong! it transfers the weight and stiffness to the rear wheels and makes the front lighter and sloppier....I found that no amount of adjusting the sways or the D-specs could compensate for it....

Lesson learned.....beware of the consequences before just jumping on something just cause it looks cool.

end result....had to order new rear upper spring mounts.

SIGH!

to add to this....Imagine a newbie with a stock suspension doing the rear spring mount mod to even out the car.....before it was done the sterring was all nice and tight and sharp up front (typical stock)

after the mod and test driving...he is like OHH SHI!!!!....what happened to the steering its so soft and feels like its all over the place loose and sloppy....

Just saving some fool from screwing up his handling....it was so bad i was embarrassed to let someone drive it in fear of them saying the cars handling sucked badly

This.

You're forgetting about this, unless you want to chew through a set of new tires in a few months.

At the VERY least, buy the rear SPC camber arms/toe bolts (you will 100% need it). You'll find them everywhere in the Vendor - Suspension category.

Hmmmm. Those 20's didn't look bad at all. Good pick!

But you will be much happier with 19's, so even better decision. Welcome to the board and don't do anything to your Z that idiots do to their 81 Hondas, mkay?

Thank you Justin!

Believe me I'll be very careful from now on.

your car looked good how it was. you shouldnt always listen to what others say. if you like 20's get 20's dont just conform to what they say. if your asking for advice and you get it then listen to what some one says it helpful. just my 2 cents.

Do you just want a drop for looks? or you trying to keep the same handling charcteristics? you need to know this before buying springs.. the 350z with the revised suspension, handles better then the old 350z, and none of the springs on the market give the same or similar rates, with the exception of the RSR down or titanium springs.

Stock revised suspension rates:
front 314
rear 427

RSR ratets:
front 345
rear 417
.6/.6 f/r drop

cobbs are stiffer and drop closer to an inch, but would need new shocks.

all other springs that I have read here are pretty much progressive rates, and the rears are usually softer then the front, and are softer then the revised suspension.

This can lead to some understeer, just from suspension dynamics. Even the RSR may have a little more understeer then stock revised suspension.

good luck

you change the spring rates when you cut a spring shorter. It will be super stiff. Don't do it.
