I really don't care for how weak they equipped them on the rear spring rate's. (Don't get me wrong, I love my Cusco sway bars). They use 560lbs front rates, but only 392lbs on the rear. That's less than the stock rear rates! Or to put it another way. Front rates are about 62% stiffer than stock, rear rates are about 6% softer than stock. I don't care for that at all, that would make the understeer that everyone complains about, much worse. Just to say it, the Jic's which don't cost that much more( actually less if you shop smart $1729) use spring rates that are more sensiable. 62% stiffer than stock in the front and surprise, around 61% stiffer than stock in the rear.

I read somewhere that spring rates have nothing to do with understeer. I may be wrong though

Yeah that would be wrong. Especially since were not talking about a tiny difference in roll front to rear roll stiffness. Were talking about a whopping 62% increase in the front and going slightly lower in the rear. Switch things around and you'd move away from understeer and towards oversteer.

Note: Shock Absorbers influence how quickly weight is transferred.

They have no affect on the amount of weight transferred,(that is where your spring rate's factor in, along with fine tuning via adjustable sway bars).

Shocks influence handling during transitions – braking, accelerating and cornering.

Gcoupe35 have you actually driven a car with them? I agree that the spring rate alone would likely induce more understeer but have you consider that they're meant to be paired with the matching sways.

Softest rear springs of any coilovers plus stiffest rear sway of any manufacturer. Perhaps they know what they're doing?

I was thinking the same thing, cusco sways with their coil-overs might be a good setup. Everyone likes their sways but noone has touched their coil-overs.

I just dont know, its a good deal that I have found, but if noone knows alot about them.....maybe I should move on to a diffrent brand

Proper tuning is to set the car up with the spring rates, then fine tune with sway bars. Sway bars should not be used to overcome that much of a rate disparity. Best thing I could say is, I hope that the source that published the rates is in fact, wrong. Here is the link. This is one of those case's where I actually want my info to be wrong.

I have the Cusco sway's. They did a wonderfull job of dialing out my understeer. Theirs no way that increasing my front roll stiffness 62% would be overcome by my Cusco's rear bar stiffness, which at 73% stiffer than the stock bar, is the highest rear bar stiffness you can buy for the Z or G. I'd get back all the understeer the bars killed off. That's kinda my whole point in revealing their choice in spring rate tuning. Furthermore, no other coilover maker for the G or the Z with known spring rates, other than HKS with the LS coilover for the G35 coupe (that application being a comfort ride system anyhow) use's softer rear rates. None of the Tein's do, none of the Jics do and the HKS hipermax II's don't either.

Tein Basic 504lbs front and rear
Tein CS 392lbs front and rear
Tein Flex 671lbs front and rear
Jic FLA-2 350Z 560lbs front 672lbs rear
Jic FLA-2 G35 coupe 560lbs front and rear
Jic FLA-2RS 350Z & G35 coupe 869lbs front 1008lbs rear
HKS hipermax LS 350Z 448lbs front and rear
HKS hipermax II 504lbs front and rear
Tanabe PRO S-0C rates unknown
VeilSide Standard Coilovers 350Z rates unknown
VeilSide Pro Sports Coilover 350Z rates unknown

I'm just saying don't knock it until you try it. Cusco have been around for a while and have a reputation for producing good quality gear.

As for the spring rates they're correct unless Cusco have them listed incorrectly on their own website.

what coilover will be right for me, I would like to slap some 20's on, then lower the car, but do not want the body to hit the tires or, bounce around like I see some ricers do (also want a body kit)....but I am also keeping in mind of a good track/strip application (when taking 20's off to race).......anyone know of a good all around coilover

or am I just out of my mind.....someone educate me please

That's part of why I'm saying I actually hope that site I posted that show's the spring rates is wrong. I like Cusco, but I cannot support that kind of rate application if it's indeed correct. Brings me to the question, how do I get Cusco's phone number and would they be willing to disclose their spring rates to confirm.

Jic FLA-2's or Tein flex with the EDFC controller.

You could also consider the HKS hipermax II's on sale at Grupee-S for $1695 shipped. Their is one known member that has them on his car. A search will find him if you wanted to pm the man.

As I said above those rates are correct, they're the same rates as on Cuscos own website. The ones in the brackets are the optional rates for the front.

If you want to speak to them I'm sure they have their contact details on their website and obviously they have no concern about revealing them as they're there for everyone to see.

Buy $1500 coilovers that have specs that do not jive with known tuning law's and I'm running the stiffest rear sway bar know right know, I'm telling you, it wouldn't be enough to compinsate. Adding 62% greater front roll stiffness, that's just not smart. I don't have $1500 to possibly throw away, not unless the 5 level's of dampener adjustment can cover at least a 3Kg rear rate increase, which I'd bet money on that they cannot. I practice risk reduction by research. Research by specs, by what are the proper tuning laws and research on what are the people that do know more than me are running, It's not the Cusco coilovers I'll tell ya that.

damn dude....I've done some searchs on coilovers....YOUR ALL OVER THEM.....hahahaha....Thanks for the info. So what do you recommend. I read the HKS are too soft, therefore when/if I ever want to race (with diffrent wheels ofcourse) HKS wont help.
So whats the best all around coilover for the money, that would suit my needs....I prob wont race everyday or every weekend for that matter

Heard many good things on both JIC's and Tein's. My buddy runs JIC's and loves them. I went with Tein's because of the EDFC. JIC are monotube set up so are probably a bit better suited for track.
