Unhappy Thumping sound when braking

So i just took my car in to get my nismo suspension installed, but now when i step on the brakes, the car squeaks and right before i come to a stop theres a clunking sound and i can feel it through the pedal. i can tell its coming from the front, but other than that i have no idea whats going on. i took it back to the shop and they couldnt tell what was wrong. has anyone else had this problem? help me pleaseeeeeeee

i have a 08 enthusiast on nismo s-tune suspension, just for the record.

You're not alone! I have an '03 Enthusiast on Tein Springs and the stock suspension and my car does the EXACT same thing(except for the squeak. Mine doesn't do that...or maybe it does and I haven't noticed that!)! I have no idea what it is , but I'd love to find out! I'm gonna take it to a mechanic sometime next week. If he figures it out, I'll let you know.

i had a tahoe that did that because the driveshaft was full of gunk. was a common problem on them. but obviously it sounds like this comes from non-factory suspensions. GL with the hunt, in for an answer

I would have totally agreed with you, except mine was doing it BEFORE I had the springs put on... Nobody seems to have a clue ...

I hate to say it, but im glad im not alone lol. if you find a soulution, let me know! im scared of driving my Z with this...

At first i thought it was because of the suspension also, but then i figured that if it WAS the suspension, wouldnt the ride feel weird too? the "thumping" only happens when i apply the brakes :/ besides, its a nismo suspension, it came from a nismo z.

Also, today i drove the Z to the store, and i noticed that when i apply the brakes, the pedal sometimes loses its tension. could it possibly be the master cylinder?? anywho, the Z is staying in the garage until i find a solution. help me get my Z rolling again!!!!

i took off my front rims and rotors and found that the passenger side dust shield was slightly touching my rotor, thats what was making it squeak. so i got the sqeaking to stop, but the thumping is still there let me know what your mechanic says!

Brakes and suspension are related. New springs and shocks may reduce front end plow or dive. This should reduce stopping distance.

That said I am not certain if your problems are brake or suspension related.

I'm dropping mine off at my mechanics shop tomorrow. Hopefully we'll have an answer by Wednesday or Thursday.

hm... well i checked the pads, and surprisingly the inside pads were on the outside and visversa, but even after fixing that, it didnt help.

and to davidv, if it wasnt brake or suspension related, what else could it possibly be? i only get the problem when i step on the brake pedal. i've tried slowing down with the handbrake, and well it certainly doesnt do as well, but i dont get a thump. i showed my brother (drives a g35 sedan 6mt) and he said it *might* have something to do with my ABS sensor.

*sigh* let me know what they tell you at the shop pbass. anyone else want to chime in? suggestions as to where i should look?

Sorry, bro. I haven't heard anything yet. I'm still waiting.

Obviously I'm not a mechanic, but I hadn't noticed any braking issues, so I don't think it's hurting anything. I know it's annoying, believe me! I hope to have an answer soon.

man i have some kinda problem with mine to... here is my situation. it just started to happen when it got cold out side (28-34 degrees ) ill will be driving and when i come to a stop my pedal gets really hard and it pulled crazy to the right so to me it feels like a caliper problem maybe sticking, what whats crzy is that it happens intermittently. also i can hear some clicking while im stopped like somekind of abs sound... it bugging the **** out of me though..

I got the squeak here also. Driving around at 50-60 mph and when I begin to brake, it starts squeaking between 40-30mph, after that it's fine. When it does squeak, my steering wheel moves left slightly by itself though. What could it be? Occasionally I'll get a thump, but usually that's in really cold weather 30-40*F. Can someone help me with this?

I know it sounds simple but check to make sure your calipers are bolted tightly to the knuckle. Also I once had a wheel with 2 lugs that were not very tight, I loosened them all and re torqued them down and that got rid of the clunking which only occurred during somewhat hard braking.
