Default Gt spec bar to replace tunnel stay ?!?

Hey guys just a quick question,

I've looked at every thread containing "tunnel stay" in them and couldn't find my answer... My tunnel stay is bended a bit and is starting to rust, I was about to buy a new one from Nissan but I saw that Gt spec had a GTSPEC 4 Point Mid Chassis Reinforcement Brace For 350Z/G35 and I was wondering if it would be a good replacement for it, if not what would be the adequate performance part to replace to original tunnel stay ????

Thank you guys for your time

Well the 4 point is more of a "mid-tunnel" brace whereas the OEM is located more towards the rear, and which also protects the gas tank.

If you really want to remove it, i would say the 4 point plus the rear lower tie and lateral arm braces would more than make up for the loss in structural rigidity, but none will protect your gas tank.

The gtspec rear lower tie will be more subframe (closer to tunnel brace's job) than the lateral arm brace, but both will greatly tighten the back of your Z, whereas the 4 point will be more mid-tunnel, or added rigidity where the Z has none stock.

So i guess for a more simple answer:

If your not worried about the gas tank, the 4 point + rear lower tie will be more than adequate.

Replace the tunnel stay, they don't cost that much. The 4 point may leverage some force, but the other braces just don't measure up to me.

The OEM brace itself is a combination of round tube and the "flatter piece" (lack of a better term here). Its constructed using a technique quite commonly used on flat panels with no curvature to increase panel rigidity. The holes on the piece aren't just holes, the circumference of the hole has a curvature in a 3rd dimension, I believe downwards in this case.

Adding this type of construction to a flat metal panel, not only reduces the overall weight, but it demonstrates higher rigidity than the original panel. It's a mass production part, so needless to say it will portray some characteristics of a part that tries to do as much as possible with as little as possible.
