Default car scraping when going over bumps

after my g35 stechs drop, i have been scraping going over speed bumps. i have a 04 z.

i have a body kit but its not the kit that is scraping. its the underside of my car. what is it causing it to scrape??

most of the time when going over a bump, i feel a jerk of a yank from my shifter. as if the bump is really hitting teh shifter. and sometimes it feel as if my whole underside is scraping.

is there something i can do or replace that would fix this problem because i plan on going lower with eibach but if i cant even drive in my neighborhood without having a hearthattack each time then its not worth it.

Get coilovers and set it as low as you can without scraping...

or live with it and learn how to take dem bumps

wow quick responses, but mind me if i sound ignorant, but how would coilover solve the problem?

coilovers make it lower so wouldnt it make it worse?

With coils you can adjust the height high enough to not scrape but low enough to look good. Most good brands will give about 4 inches of adjustment

Coilovers usually have stiffer spring rates therefore less bounce & a stiffer ride.

Look at it this way, say your stock height is 6 inches, you could:

1) Install S-techs and be at 5.5"

2) Get coilovers and be at 2"-6"

Where springs are a set height, coils could put you at 5.6" which would give you enough clearance to clear the speedbumps. You can find a used set of Stance coils for like $600 it you think the slight drop is worth it but it soundslike you have pretty serious bumps. I would either move or rent a buldozer.

Or this, if you don't track the car.

theres really no point in more money to make the car higher. im wanting to actually make it go lower without the scrapes. currently i know that the cats are scraping along with the steel plates underneath the car.

is it even safe for me to be going over bump and the bump hitting hard enuff to make the shifter move?

i dont track so i want a comfy ride. i was hoping i can adjust or remove something out from under the car.

i want to safely drop it 1.2 inches. i know i will scrape my kit, but i was hoping i would scrape my shifter box or whatever it is that is making my shifter move

If you lowered the car and it's scraping then the ONLY solution is to go higher. You could remove the underbody M brace ( I did ) and gain about .5" of ground clearance but there is no way to lower the car more yet scrape less unless you move to a place where everything is flat.

yes i understand that by lowering more it will scrape more, thats why i brought up the question of removing or adjusting parts to make it work.

i live in a pretty flat area, and i rarely HAVE to go thru high bumps area, unless its to class.

How about this. wrap the underneath the car suspected of scraping with masking tape or what ever, go over the bump, then be a scientist and see what scrapes. then do what you will with the info, whether you need to remove parts etc...

I seriously doubt there will be anything you can move/remove under the car. More than likely what's scraping is permanent parts.

Yes, I'm on Stance coils and have done some serious scraping. I've felt this once or twice but I'm not to worried about it.

Remove the wheels & ride on rotors. Problem solved.

Correct.

The front spring sits on the cross bar.
The rear spring sits on the suspension member. Springs will not alter the ground clearance of either. It is fixed.
