Default adjusting rear dampers

Hey everyone I was messing around with my car today. i was trying to adjust my rear shock, because there was play between the spring and the body. I didn't end up fixing it, I just took everything a part and put it back together. While messing around with my shock I think I made my stiffness harder. It is to stiff for me, and I want to make it softer. I read some where in a thread that you do have to take of the rear tire, but I can't find that thread anymore, and I can't seem to find it anymore. Any input would be great everyone thanks!!

btw I am on sma coilovers thanks

You would need to ask SMA where their damper adjustment is or just look at the damper itself - every coilover is different. Some are done at the top, which means you either have to remove the shock and adjust it, then reinstall the shock; or drill a hole in the rear strut brace, and use their supplied tool/screwdriver/whatever to adjust things. If it is done at the bottom, again, it depends on your specific unit. Some require the wheel to be removed, some don't - that's a function of the wheel you have and where the adjustment **** is located

thanks z1 I think mine is adjusted from the top. I remember before installing there where something I can click left or right. I can't see it anymore, because it is on the car.I have to remove the whole shock to adjust it? I am not even sure how i made it stiffer, because I did not even mess with anything at the top. I was just messing with the shock itself on the bottom. How do you remove the plastic at the top? Thanks for the help z1.

the plastic all snaps apart you just have to be careful that you don't snap the clips. Easiest way is to get a tool from an auto parts store - they make ones that are designed specifically to remove such panels.

you will need to either remove the shock or drill the hole in top that lines up with the adjustment screw on the damper

but before you touch any of that stuff, you need to get with the company and figure out why you're still having height issues - there should not be any play whatsoever between the spring and the body

I am 90 percent sure it is the shock. The people who installed my coilover adjusted the height adjustment, but didn't adjust the shock. The shock is set to its heighest setting. I know this, because if i set my locking ring to its heights point, then there is no play at all between the spring and the body. So yesterday, I went in to try adjust the shock up. It was a lot harder then I thought it would be, so I decided to just put things back together. I guess in that small almount of time I was messing with shock, I must have adjusted the damper. Anyways I am just going to take it back to the shop so they can fix it. Thanks for the reply z1. I will try the local pep boys and see if the have the tool you speak of. Ohh btw did you get the parts I shipped you?

Ohh thanks man I didn't realize that. I think I have a found a way to fix our problem with the spring sitting loose. I am pretty sure our shocks are set for the highest setting ride height so the shock has full play. If we just adjust the shock an inch or two, it should bring the spring up so that there won't be any play for the spring to bounce around. I was trying to do this on my own, but too much work, and I had to leave for work. Thanks for the info jkebun. Ill let give you more info when I get it fixed.
