Angry ebrake, back brakes... ahhh frustration...

alright look i have a 2003 silver z. this past week i have put in a new driver side window motor, new passenger side door handle mechinism, back brakes and ebrakes. So, here is the problem. The ebrake has pressure and tension... but when i pull it, it hardly does anything. it will still roll on a small incline and after getting the rear brakes put on on the way home they was smelling pretty tuff.... and feels as if they are compressed against the rotor kinda i mean if u put it in nutral it eventual slows it to a stop... so whats up with the ebrake and is that normal to smell them after putting in brand new ones?

yikes, that's no good

hmmm, maybe you overtightened something on the rear brakes,
just did mine and it was pretty straightforward, but I have no idea about the ebrake

yeah i had someone do it for me they said that was normal... lol because they was new... i did the fronts... and they didn't do that... idk the only reason i let them is because they already had the ebrake suppose to be fixed and they already had the wheels and calipers off...

I would have to look at it to fix it, and the ebrake may be a simple fix.

The e-brakes are drum brakes within the rear rotor. The rear brakes are the disc part of the rotor.

It sounds like your e-brake just needs to be adjusted and has nothing to do with your rear pads. Check the Factory Service Manual for a how-to.

I just adjusted the ebrake on my friends G coupe. There is a black rubber cap on the rotor/disc. Remove it, then rotate the whole hub to find the adjustment **** inside/behind the rotor hat. Use a flat screwdriver to adjust the ****...I believe you need to push down on it to tighten the pads until it makes contact to the inside surface of the rotor hat. Rotate the hub until you feel a slight drag from the pads indicating it is making some contact. Apply ebrake, rotate hub to test. If you cannot rotate by hand, it is probably adjusted. Put back cap/wheels. Test again by turning engine on and place in drive with ebrake engaged. Car should stay stationary.

Do these first prior to adjusting:
1.Jack up the car (rear). Place wheel chocks to front wheels to prevent rolling.
2.Remove rear wheel/s
3.Make sure ebrake is disengaged. Put car in Neutral gear.
