STANCE GR+ Pro Problem
I just got them, put them on. I am on the 2nd to the stiffest setting. I am running on stock tires and rims for an 05z. It is lowered SLIGHTLY.. very slightly.
Problem: As i am driving, i can feel every hit. (I know this happens.) BUT, i hear like a metal click. Like a metal piece dings another, and it only happens in the rear.
I drove it back to the garage, jacked it up, tried to shake the coilover left and right, back and forth. Nothing. Tried to check the bolts with just finger tight and make sure none were too lose. Nothing. Only thing i noticed, the coil itself, the physical round peice, is extremely extremely close to the wall of my fender on the back. Like a centimeter away. Is that normal? Could that be hitting the wall on bumps causing the sound?
Any ideas? I appreciate it very much guys.

ryaann I had the same problem for quite sometime, and the same coilovers, It's a metal clicking sound and for me it only occurs when driving over cracks/ edges in the pavement, not on wavy or uneven roadway and only in the rear. I have called Stance and been to 2 different shops and still haven't found the answer. I periodically check my coilovers, inner fenders and mounting points for wear, rubbing, and banging marks, so far nothing. I had my shocks professional installed and they were properly torqued ( I don't remember the torque specs). Please post if you find an answer. BTW I have the valving **** set on the 2nd softest.

you need to tighten the springs. its the pillow ball mounts rattling make sure that you cannot move the spring. i did what stance said and tighten it just enough that you can still turn the spring and my pillow ball mounts started rattling.
That makes sense, I will give it a try, we had the springs where you could turn them by hand only because Stance told us not to preload the springs. Thanks Mr.Kram

Does anyone still have the instructions for the coilovers. I've been trying to get stance to email them to me all last week, and today. It's like they aren't sending them. Thanks
i have the instructions but i would have to take a pic of it. i don't have a scanner or anything.
I believe they're talking about tightening the bolts that hold the pillowball mount to the car... so your picture see the two holes (top and bottom from your finger) where you would bolt them to the car? tighten that.
Hey man this is a very common problem on the Z. My car did the clunk stock and now it has it with apexi coilovers.
A lot of people have asserted that it is the shock, or the mounting point, or the rear hatch. Here is a massive thread with alot people with the same problem and a bunch of different solutions (going to the dealer and replacing various suspensions parts) which never seem to last.

This thread seems to address the issue pretty good and seems like it should actually fix the problem. It also expains the variations of the problem between cars and how it is related to how tight the tolerances are in the suspension. For example some people get excessive clinging coming from both rear corners on every bump and some only experience slight clunking sometimes on the passenger side. This is probably due to how much play there is between the bolt and the shock and the pillow mount and body.
