Default Brake/Clutch Fluid, What Kind to Use?

Hey guys, first... I hope this is the right area to post this... if not please feel free to move moderators...

Im changing ALLLLLL my fluids this weekend, and tried the search button to find any threads on brake fluids or clutch fluids people have used, and couldnt find anything...

QUESTION IS: Is there a specific brand fluid I should use on either? DOT 4? What name brand? Im new to the Z, not new to cars... I just dont want to mess any of this up. lol.

Thanks!

Owners manual tells you to use DOT 3. Brand doesn't really matter - stick with a known name-brand and you can't go wrong.

sounds good, thanks guys, i researched just a taaaaad more, and just now found out to use the DOT3 fluid.

Also... sorry if this is such a noob question... but isnt the clutch fluid AND brake fluid the same? Im thinking of getting the ATE Super Blue fluid, and can be used the same right? Just looking to top it off... not bleed it quite yet.

Thanks

Yes, they use the same thing. Your owners manual tells you so.

Anyone use brake fluid that is both DOT3 & DOT 4 approved? The only difference I can tell is that it has a higher boiling point. Or should I stick with DOT3 only?

Most people will say that it doesn't matter and for the most part that is true. One school of thought is that if you have been using DOT3 then stick with it.

Dot 3 will work just fine, so will Dot 4. With that said, i change all my cars out to Dot 4 , it only costs a few extra cents but i can be hard on the brakes in the mountains. My Z I run off the shelf Dot 4 in my clutch and ATE blue for brakes, Do not run a high end Dot 4 like Motul or ATE if you just daily drive. They require frequent bleeding and the fluid is prone to absorb water faster than the normal Dot 4. It will also just cost you extra money you don't need to spend.

Only thing I could really find but how much brake fluid does the system take? I was going to flush the whole system but not sure how much to purchase.
