Default Do I NEED a big brake kit?

My current go fast mods: AEM CAI, DC Sport Headers, Berk HFC's, Stillen Y-Pipe, Greddy Ti-C.

Future go fast mods: Motordyne MREV2, Motordyne Spacer, ECU Reflash/Dyno Tune.

I have a Touring Roadster ('06 REVUP). I drive normal most of the time, sometimes I get aggressive, but I have no track plans for my car in the future.

Should I get a big brake kit? Try to find some OEM Brembos? Or save the brake money and apply it toward the wheels/suspension I'm trying to gameplan for?

if you aren't tracking, and you already have the 06+ brakes, don't waste your money.

honestly not worth it unless you intend on tracking, imo. if you had the 03-05 brakes like I unfortunately do, then I might consider it worth while, but eh.

Not even worthwhile if you don't track.
Just upgrade pads, rotors, brake fluid if you want to be completely comfortable with aggressive daily driving. Anymore than that and it's just jewelry.

Need a BBK? No, but you don't need a 350Z either. If you like the feel and looks of your current OE system and don't get the rotors over 850°F, then there is no physical need for larger brake system. If you want better performance, much better pedal feel and control, a massive increase in thermal capacity and more aggressive looks, then you might want to check out at the better options out there.

This is one of those questions that if you have to ask, then you don't need it. If you knew the reasons why you would NEED bigger brakes, then you wouldn't even have to ask. What you're really asking is "do I have a reason to justify buying a BBK?"

it is a common misconception that if you get a BBK, your stopping power will be dramatically better. not sure if OP believes this or not, but that's my thoughts.

power has absolutely nothing to do with brakes believe it or not - brakes are about 2 basic things - weight, and grip

if you track the car, or find yourself doing repeated higher speed stops, then a proper BBK by a reputable manufacturer is a very worthwhile mod. If you're into the show scene, that too is as good a reason as any. If neither applies to you and you just want it to have it, that's cool too. If none of the above, you really have no reason to consider it

Agree. 100 MPH is 100 MPH no matter how you get there. Same stopping distance.

Yes. If you go big wheels and big tires get big brakes. Add weight and diameter to wheels and braking will suffer.

There are tons of stuff we do in our lives that we don't "need" to do. Same applies to how we mod our cars. I know I don't need a BBK but I like them (Looks). However with my current financial stand I cannot justify that cost for looks. All I am saying is much of what we do depend on affordability and other priorities

I think he means that simple bolt ons will allow him to reach Bugatti-type acceleration and top speed. In that case, yes, you need it.

Your roadster with those mods will be lucky to keep up with a regular coupe stock. The verts are pigs.

If you had another 300 horsepower then you would need it to help pull you out of sticky situations that you got yourself into. I find myself careless sometimes and forget how much faster I can accelerate and how much more speed I need to scrub off going into turns, because the turbo doesn't increase handling...

This is what I was looking for, thank you.

I was originally planning on doing EBC pads, power slot rotors, and just getting my rotors painted gloss black. Thank you for reaffirming my original plan.

so question for a mild build TT with 450whp-475whp will larger rotors, stickier pads, and dot 4 brake fuild suffice for aggresive street driving and few road races, ie (road atlanta??)

as a salesman id say yes. but you dont. for 99% of bbk buyers, its a want, not a need, but thats usually the case for most mods....

I have I/H/E, MREV2, Spacer, and Unichip, and my BASE 06 does not have a BBK. I have aftermarket cross-drilled/slotted rotors, and ceramic OEM-replacement pads... My Z is my DD, and there's no track on the island, so it works perfectly for me.

As stated, you don't NEED a BBK. If you don't track, the OEM brakes do the job quite well.

If you think you REALLY need them, just get a set of used OEM Brembo.
