Default OEM or Hawk HPS pads?

It's time to replace my front brake pads. I got mixed reviews with people saying stick with OEM pads and the other to go with HPS. I have an 04 350 Performance Package. Which pad would you recommend for daily driving on a non brembo brakes?

Daily driving - get some generic pads from Autozone, OReilly, etc. Akebono or Bendix brands. Low dust, stop great on the street, easy on your rotors.

Are you happy with brake dust from OEM pads?

Haha ....is that a question?? I heard the HPS is pretty good with break dust and i just read the same about akebono. My z is my daily driver but i drive it pretty hard sometimes so I would want the stopping power. Would you guys still recommend the akebono over HPS for aggressive drivers?

I've actually always had great luck with raybestos pads, just the higher-level ones that you can get at any autozone or through rockauto.com or something. Cheap, work great, quiet, etc. Just don't expect them to be a track pad and you are fine.

The hawks kinda bridge the gap between a street pad and a track pad, without being the best at either. They are very dusty, get a bit noisy when hot, and if you really track them they aren't gonna last too long. They will handle any type of agressive street driving just fine, I ran 3 sets on my Cobalt for over 50K miles in 3 years and they were great. I did have slotted/drilled rotors, so my pad wear was worse than normal.

Seems like most of the negative reviews about HPS says it doesn't perform well under low speeds (have to really step on the breaks). And also that it doesn't perform well until it gets fairly warm. Does anyone else experience the same?

The one reason I stayed away from HPS pads was all the complaints about no initial bite when cold or wet. ATL gets cold and it gets wet.

HPS are the worst pads I have used in my car.....

B/W the two I'd take OEM.

I did notice a very small amount of inital 'warm-up' needed. Nothing that was a problem.

I have akebono pads on the 370Z (I think). Happy with stopping performance. Pads are virtually dust free.

Get the StopTech pads, they are good for street and your "aggressive" driving. They are also cheap.

Whichever is less expensive.. You get about the same thing out of both.

Just changed mine out 3 days back to fix some bad vibration I was getting when applying brakes at higher speeds. Caliper sliders were sticking and needed greasing. Picked up a set of prostop ceramics from pepboys and they don't seem to put off much if any dust and work just as well as the stock pads if not slightly better. Oh and half the price of oem pads. I used to run hawk hps on my vw and I liked them as well. Little dust and good balance between street and agressive pad.
