Default BBK advice

Hey all, im looking at BBKs for my z.... I am short on funds and am thinking (for now) to go with a front BBK only until i can save up some money for the rear... ive heard of people doing this, but does anyone have anything to say against this?? Also how big of a difference am i looking at between a 4 piston and a 6 piston BBK? Im assuming the extra inch on the 14" rotors is a lot better then the 13" rotors... any advice is appreciated...

Shouldn't be a problem. I see cars at track all the time with just a front BBK (not sure about brake F/R bias, maybe someone here can chime in). That being said your not really getting much more performance from bigger rotors other than better cooling. Heres a good read that anyone thinking of a BBK should read and the results at the bottom alone should say everything. http://www.zeckhausen.com/Testing_Brakes.htm#Intro

First - why do you want a BBK? Looks or track use? If you want them for looks, then think about what different Front and Rears are going to look like. If you want them for track use, then you want to do it right, not half-***.

My advice is wait till you have the money to both and do it right.

Im not concerned with looks, just performance... I have a base 350 and just after a few laps around the track, the brake fade was very noticeable and am looking into upgrading to something that will keep up with the z... itll be a long time till i can save up for a full kit....

Stay away for track use. The rotors are made of silly puddy and pad selection sucks.

My friend and I both gpt our BBk's within a couple months of each other. He has the megan kit i have wilwood. His rotors went out well before mine, his street pads have been replaced 3x, mine twice. I have about 23 more trackdays on my setup, his only hit the track 3 or 4 times, and i have around 30k more miles on my brakes.

PHATBOY BRAKES!

jk

Actually I just went through this. I ended up buying a 6 piston 14" wilwood setup. Every time I see this question I have to throw it out there because the price on these is very low right now. Retail is $1598 and you might be able to convince a vendor to get you a price below that. The company I work for is a dealer and dealer cost is a few hundred below this number.

I'm not pushing anything. This kit is FROM wilwood. Calipers, rotors, hats, lines are all wilwood.

I don't want you to buy it from me bc I won't sell you one.

That was just an fyi post.

I get all my Wilwood brakes thru http://www.tceperformanceproducts.com/350z/g35/kits-9/ Todd is a great person to deal with. I got my new rotors thru him last month. I highly suggest a set of Poly B pads for track use.

Like i said its all from wilwood. Click on one of the links from that flyer, wilwood has all the specs on their site.
Not one of the pieced together BBK's that use wilwood calipers.
It's a pretty good deal even at retail. Also plenty of vendors on here who are wilwood dealers. Replacement parts and pads are easy to come by. GL with decision!

Thanks for the kind words. I don't make a point of trying to be the low price leader, just back up the sale with the knowledge and experience that 19yr brings. I've learned that sometimes that's worth more than a $50 savings in price.

Just get blanks if possible, if not slotted only. Wilwood offers minimum of slotted.

thanks for all the help guys.... still cant decide between 13" and 14" rotors!!! Can anyone put an end to teh constant bickering between me and myself lol... i read that the 14s dont really increase stopping power (compared to 13), but run a lot cooler then the 13's.... are they really necessary if i only go to track 5ish times a season??
