Default Noise comming from rear middle.

2008 350z Nismo, 15,000 miles.

Alright at first I thought I had a rattling noise coming from the rear right so I searched up some of the problems our members have had. I did the shock mod with the 1/2 in. PVC pipe that a lot of people had success with but not me. So after that was done, I still had some noise. Went for a drive with someone riding shotgun and figured out the noise was coming from the rear middle actually. It's a clatter/rattle that only happens when I drive over speed bumps or rougher roads. I've completely emptied my trunk, so it can't be coming from anything being loose back there. Tomorrow I'll jack it up and see if I can find out what's the deal, anyone have any input meanwhile? Thanks.

oops, forum was made in wrong area, sorry. could a mod please move it to the 350z section thank you.

UrineDanger,

Do you have a video clip of this rattling sound?

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and suggest that the sound might be originating from the differential or the coupling assembly. Take a look at all of the components vital to this area (all of the pivotal components are displayed in this 350Z diagram) and look for any loose or missing bolts.

Additionally, inspect the rear portion of your exhaust system. It's plausible that a bushing has become worn and is causing some sort of rubbing which results in the rattling sound that you hear

I took a quick peek under there yesterday, as far as I could tell everything was pretty tight, maybe the bushing in the exhaust. I'll do a thorough search on Friday morning. I'll record a sound clip to see if that could help narrow it down, but I doubt it. Thanks for the response tech. That diagram is very handy appreciate it.

Check if your swaybar is hitting to rear differential. I have this clonking sound and Nissan mechanic told me that my swaybar may be twisted.
