Default Springs help!!

Hey guys,

So I have been trying to contact/receive some information and ask questions from tanabe and JM Auto racing, a vendor on this forum, but they have been ignoring me and I don't want to waste any more time waiting on them. I bought coils from them, but the drop is not big enough, so I want to purchase springs that are shorter. I am not sure what the current length of my springs are, thanks to jm auto, but im going to assume its a linear spring, around 200mm with 9kg spring rate in the rear. If I want to purchase 180mm springs, would it be better to go with 8kg, 9kg, or 10kg? I ask because I am not sure if shorter springs with higher or lower tension may create more bounce, the ride is slightly bouncy right now. How different of a ride is 180mm springs with 8kg as opposed to 10kg? Thanks!!

does anyone know if the length and type of spring affects ride height? I am comparing the 180mm bc shorter springs to tanabe springs, but tanabe uses linear, and bc doesnt. Trying to see if I should get the 180mm or 170mm

That sounds like a tough one. No wonder they are not responding. At the end you would be better off selling those and getting something that would give you the drop you want.
Good luck

^^Hugo, I did research the drop and even talked with jmauto and was reassured the setup would give me the drop I wanted. Btw, the current springs I have are 370z springs which were swapped out from the regular 350z springs to give me the drop I wanted, but jm auto said it is not their fault and they did not make any promises. Anyways, just focusing on what I can do NOW

why not contact Tanabe directly? If you are out of height adjustment on the coilovers with the current springs, you CAN get shorter springs, I don't know anything about the Tanabes so that may or may not work well but its worth a try. I would especially be weary of getting shorter AND softer springs.

You are worried about ride when your driving a hammered car. You can either be part of the HellaGay movement or have a nice riding car.

^^I did contact tanabe, multiple times, but they stopped responding, and I don't want to wait days or weeks for a single reply.

Terrasmak, my car is currently slightly lower than stock height. I just want shorter springs so it actually looks like the car is dropped from stock height, no hella gay or **** here. And yes, I am worried about ride quality especially when these coils market themselves on comfort.

Alright man here it goes:

First of all, if you did research and was reassured that you would get the drop you wanted; why didn't you get that "promised" drop. How much of a "drop" are we talking about.

Second, you have to give springs time to settle. Drive around for a week or so and see if it actually gets to the lowest point.

Third, measure your drop(fender to center bore) and see if it's just you who doesn't think it's low enough. Maybe it already achieved the promised height by the vendor.

Lastly, why did you get 370z springs for a 350z? And you state you bought coils, as in coilovers, or coil springs?

Just search for a spring set up FOR YOUR CAR with a more aggressive drop!
That would Eibach Sport lines..etc. The manufacturer KNOWS the confirmed drop..you prolly want 1.25" or so. Be advised, you'll need to adjust the CAMBER BEYOND factory capability..that means getting camber kits to dial out excessive camber change.
The other thing you can do (I've done this myself on other cars) is CUT 1/3 coil (at most). You can also lower the REARS by cutting off 3/4" from the lower spring mounts (preferred over cutting coil). Cutting coils will, however, change the spring rate (stiffer) and is really not the way to go vs the first option. To other's here reading this...don't bother to bash me on cutting...can be done if you're conservative and YES, it's NOT the *way to go*, but I've done this successfully.

the thing is, I would love to order different springs but I don't have any info/specs to go off. I have asked tanabe and JM AUTO RACING a vendor who i bought these coils from, and all they do is ignore me and keep saying, we are waiting for a reply, we have asked f ing bull s h it. I don't know for sure the exact specs of my springs because they "custom" ordered the springs for me, but when i asked for the specs, they have just ignored me. So I don't know the correct diameter of the springs, I don't know what length they are, and I am not even sure of the kg of the springs. That is why i am deciding if I should take a chance and order the springs from tanabe, or take a bigger chance and order springs from a different company which may be completely different specs.
