Default Used BBK - need advice :(

Got Ap Racing 3700 and 3750 6/4 BBK

During shipping the box must have been turned upside down cause when i got it parts where everywhere,, bottle of brake fluid burst and covered everything, bits of paint chips sat in the bottom of box, calipers were chipped all over... all that is only visual i know...

But my concern is....
Both the rear calipers have black rubber coming out of the some or all of pistons, do i need a seal replacment kit or it that fine?
The fronts are perfect.. they are only 15K old and lightly used i was told.

Advice?

I'd reseal them if the seals are coming apart for sure. Up to you on the fronts, but if the one set is that bad, the others cant be that far behind.

It takes seconds to pop a piston out to see the seals, it also only takes seconds to swap a seal if it is needed. Guess what, seals are also cheap. The hardest part of swapping seals out is bleeding the brakes, I think you may have to do this considering they are not even installed on your car yet!

Used brakes are always a risk. Pads are no big deal. The potential problem is malfunctioning or leaking pistons. Now you are looking at a rebuild kit. Serious bucks. Good luck.

And now a word from the guy who has been following me for years. Not sure why but its kind of creepy.

Once again you are an idiot that actually knows nothing about what is going on. Rebuild kits are cheap, should be no more than $20 per caliper.

Rebuild kits aren't usually that pricy. It's the tools that get ya.

Please point me towards some links for rebuild kits as i want the right ones

I was hoping to get them on this weekend with my new Enkei Raijin and RS3 wheel/tires but i guess not.

May as well get them repainted while im waiting for seal kits.
The front seals look perfect and was told only 15K old but i will get a front set if cheap and if they need doing i will have them ready.

But rears need doing as you can see
Any help on tools needed too?

Thanks Guys

Looks like these guys are your distributor in OZ.

http://www.compfriction.com.au/

they are in ACT, not sure where you are at but I would ring them and let them sort you out. If you do not know the exact usage from the original owner(not claimed) I would just rebuild the lot since you have everything off that way you know what has been done and when. I just did this with a set of Brembos and it is super easy and quite cheap. Not sure if there is a difference with the AP but the distributor can give answers and you can decide from there.

Do all of the seals. Clean em up fully and paint/powdercoat fresh.

This kit is excellent from what i've been told.

Are you stuck buying rotors/pads?

Pads have lots of life left and they are DS2500
Rotors have no lip so good for the moment but i will need someone to buy more off when the time comes so would like prices and info on who to get them from.

To get all seals is $, i would like to if cheaper from usa but australia prices = $15 a seal and $15 dust seal so $30 per piston.. 20 pistons all um

Australian Prices

Front 6 piston CP7040
Standard seals $84AUD per caliper x2
Race seals $90AUD per caliper x2
Dust seals $60 per caliper x2

Rear 4 piston CP5147
Standard seals $65 per caliper x2 (includes internal dust seals i think!)

so $430AUD for all new seals (front race ones) and dust seals...
Thus ill go the rears for now

Can i open the front up and inspect seals without damaging them and then put them back together ???

I have to pay for brakes to be soda blasted and then repainted too.
let me know re front seals, ill open them up and take pics and see what u guys think. Rather not spend $300 if i dont have too.. not being cheap but just not wasting money either. If i could get them cheaper i would def do them all. Anyone know of cheaper places? i cant call around from Australia

I would find site sponsor that sells AP brakes and see what they can price you the stuff for and shipping. Since you are talking about something quite small and light you can have it shipped USPS for cheap. If it would fit in a small flat rate box those are only like $15 to post and it will be there in about a week. Also you are good on duties coming to Australia until $1,000 so it should slide right thru customs.

I apologize for not seeing this post sooner or your PM's. For some reason I wasn't getting email notifications about the PM's and I just saw an email regarding a new post about stillen.

Please feel free to email me directly at kmillen@stillen.com. It's always best to communicate directly rather than through a forum.

Thanks.
