can japanese coilovers ever match their other counterparts?
This past week I have been reading a lot on shocks like how they work, what to look for, how to read dyno's, etc. A lot of reading to better understand what the hell is going on and make educated purchases. I noticed in a lot of articles and even personal conversations with well educated people, everyone seems to bash on most Japanese coilover brands while they give nothing but praise to the likes of bilstein/ ohlins/ koni and higher.
My question is, could a "crappy" japanese coilover be revalved(with quality seals and what not) to match the performance of say a Bilstein PSS B14damper. I have a chance to Buddy club racing spec coilovers with whatever spring rate i want for way below MSRP. However, after riding in my coworker's penske equiped s2000 I've become enticed by nicer coilovers, specifically the Bilstein PSS. I plan on getting custom spring rates and matching valving with whatever path i take, the upside to the buddy clubs is that theyre a true coilover and I already have a setup for true coilovers. If i got the Bilstein i would end up buying a SPL midlink with it.

Going rate is $1800 for them, they look like an Ok design. Then your looking at $125+ per shock to have to revalved for rough US tracks. For the cost you can buy a quality set of TrueChoice Koni that will be ready to go.

So can a set of revalved buddy clubs perform the same as a higher market brand?
