Default Coilovers: Tein Basis vs D2 RS

Hey all,

did some research but couldn't really find a good comparison or solid reviews on these two types of coilovers.

I originally wanted the Tein Basis coilover system, but this local shop that carries the D2 RS series said that they don't recommend the Teins because of the ride quality, and that the D2s are better. Now, I'm not sure if that is fact, or if they are just trying to get me to buy what they sell, since they don't carry the Teins.

My question is, based on experience (or credible opinion), what is a better coilover system between the two?

I'm not looking for 'slammed', but I do want functionality over anything.

Also, if there is another coilover system that you might recommend that's in the same class, please do let me know

Hope to get some good reviews/feedback.

PS: if this was answered elsewhere, I apologize. I couldn't find a good detailed thread, so please link me if it was.

Tien is better, china junk vs low end GayDM . Tien basics or KW V1 will fit the needs of the majority on here.

Tien is from JDM land, KW is German. Both KW and Tien will both have a great ride, KW will be slightly better.

I had the street basis coilovers on my car. I was pleased. The ride was firm and the response was immediately better.

The only addition I would have made was upgrading the sway bars, I still had some more body roll than I would have liked.

I have D2's now and the first VQ I ever owned had Tien basics. I honestly hated the Tien basics. I was coming off of a car that had KW's on there (much less of a car, but KW is a solid product). The car with Tien and the car with KW were both function>form setups. I mean, I wanted them to look good but one was an autox car and the other was a regular drifter/street car. But my current setup is form>function. I'm all the way slammed on D2's now and I'm happy with them. So, based on my personal experience, I'd say D2's or KWs. I just did not care for the Tiens. Only good thing about the ones I had was I was able to order that coilover plush toy. lol
