Default spl solid subframe bush install today - potential issue

Hi guys,

Just spent the day installing the solid subframe bushes

Great looking product

I found looking at the instructions it says for the 350z to put a large spacer up front and none on the rear to retain the oem set up

I found this was not possible because there was not enough thread to bolt the subframe back on on all the way

So I used the large shim on the rear and 2 each of the other shims on the front so each corner is equal

I am waiting on spl to come back at me with an answer

So will this set up kill me and everyone I know and care for ?

This is the only way that was possible due to the length of the subframe studs

But then I see this guy who did the install as per spl instructions

But if i had of done it on the rear without a top shim I would have ran out of thread

On another note, if you don't mind, were your subframe bushings shot? How long did it take you to take the subframe out beginning to end, in hours?

I ask because half of my rear is still apart for an SPL rear diff. bushing install and I just inspected all of the rear bushings, most appear fine, but two need replacement. I'm considering dropping the frame to get at all of them while I have the time and opp.. Not to many people drop the frame.

To get it all out if you have 2 people can take as little as 30 minutes and up to an hour

My bushes were sort of ok and would have lasted a few more years but my old gtr had solid bushes and I really liked the way it felt so I was going to put these in regardless .

The slowest part of the day was cutting the old bushes out , I recommend making 3-4 cuts in each bushing and then bashing them out

Do not burn them out as you will warp the aluminium on the subframe

Pressing the bushes in was easy once you have a press
You can do this with a dead blow hammer I have heard , I tried it for a second and said life's to short so went to the press .

In total with the cutting we spent 5 hours but that was because of having to go and pick up tools etc

If we do it again I would confidently say we could do it in 3 hours

I will install my diff bushes next week as I ran out of time that day

Spl still has not replied to me unfortunately....its a shame .

The car feels ok with the configuration i was forced to use however I am yet to hit the track in anger as yet so we will see .

There is absolutely no increase in noise with these bushes , there are some thin rubber pads included with the bushes and I used those so I guess they did their job.

I'm assuming when i do the solid diff bushes I will get some more noise

Below is a pic of some random studs I found online that look like the rear subframe studs .

The upper taper stops you from following the configuration recommended by spl which is 1 spacer up front and none in back

If you attempt to not use one in the rear the bolt will bottom out to soon due to the taper increase on the stud and the bolt has nowhere to go

So because of that you are forced to use all of the spacers to make the bolts fit

Thanks Brisbane33! I'm glad you liked the test ride after all that work.

These guys have done some crazy stuff back there...
