Hey guys, just picked up a set of used brembos. They're rough. Need a rebuild, new pins, and especially new paint. Has anyone attempted sandwiching humbrol 54, (aka the closest known match for brembo calipers) between some caliper primer and clear? Let me know. Thanks!
Cant speak to humbrol 54 but I found VHT SP402 Engine Metallic Burnt Copper to be an alternative. If your willing to completely repaint you'll end up with a slightly more orange color that's still in the ballpark of the orginal brembo gold and can handle heat.
I also had problems with VHT caliper clear discoloration with track use. I didn't have any problems on the street driving or bedding in track pads but it turned red in three track sessions.
VHT burnt copper
After a track day. You can see the base color stayed the same where I touched it up but the clear coat parts look red.
