cleaning urethane bushings
Spent some time searching the net and can't find any good methods for restoring the clean red finish of my ES/prothane bushings. Have used brake clean in the past but tends to leave a hazy white appearance. I know most people could care less about keeping them clean but as some of you know I can be OCD like that and this coming year i plan on doing much more detailing on the Z in all areas including under car. If anyone has found a good method please chime in. The ES grease seems to be very stubborn to clean for obvious reasons but certain parts can stay clean to function.
I have the ES bushings on my front and rear sways. I had a phase where I would go in and degrease everything once a year. What has worked for me in the past is to spray them down with the Gunk engine degreaser and let it sit overnight. Then I applied brake cleaner to a rag and wiped the degreaser off. Came out looking brand new. Of course the sway bushings are much easier to remove and clean completely, but I'd imagine it would be pretty close for everything else, at least the part of them that you can see anyway.
With that said maybe i will try some pb blaster degreaser that i have. I didn't notice any staining with it when i prepped the used engine i installed. I didn't try it on urethane yet but sounds like a good starting point. May pick up a can of the Gunk and try that as well depending on how the PB works. I know simple green won't touch it and Dawn doesn't clean the grease off my fingers.
I have never tried it, but I wonder how well Lava, Fast Orange, or maybe another form of cleaner with grit in it would work. Maybe even a light sandpaper. Might be considered extreme by some, but it may work.

You sir, aren't OCD. Fastidiously and crazily clean perhaps as evidenced by your engine compartment so here's what I suggest.
Put new ones in and then park the car in a garage. For good.
