XP-9's smearing?

I ran Panther + with my 13" Stoptech kit all last year and never had any smearing......Maybe the cooling ducts are TOO good? Not allowing the XP's to reach proper operating temp.

My duct kit has been delayed again. D*MN!

Mcclaskz and I have been talking. I think he's going to try the PF01s. They are excellent pads (if a bit pricey)..

Brakes are tricky and sometimes you find one that works for you, sometimes you don't. When you have something that works, you stick with it. In my opinion anyway.

I don't think low temp was a problem... not for the rest of the braking system anyways. Believe me, I have used the entire catalogue and for me and how hard I drive my car, the XP9 had been the best so far. These xp9s could not handle the heat, there are uneven deposits on all rotors. Time for a change. I have gone through panther+ front and rears in 1 weekend...

I have a question for those who smeared the XP comound. Were you using a Stoptech (or other) big brake kit at the time, or were you on the stock non-Brembos?

I've recently installed my Stoptech 13" kit, and have been planning on going with the XP pads. Maybe I should reconsider if folks have been smearing XP even with the higher heat dissipation of a big brake kit. Thanks!

Just installed my ducts yesterday. Thanks a lot for the pictures mcclaskz. They were very helpful. I still need to go back in there today to do a few things and check others.

One of the ducts actually got unbolted on the way home so I need to rebolt it and use some threadlock this time. I'm also a little bit concerned about interference issues with the steering at full (or getting close to full) lock. There's definitely some rubbing and unnatural stretching of the hose when going lock to lock. I wonder how long it will last.

I also ended up cutting out or removing a lot of the plastic pieces in the way and hope this won't be too much of a problem with dirt and grime getting all over the place. But I guess we'll see.

Anyway, a little bit more work and I should be ready for the track season. I also took the occasion to swap in fresh rotors for my StopTech 13s and flushed the brake lines with fresh Motul RBF600.

I've got 7 track days (750 miles or so) and 3000 street miles on my pads, and I have 50% of my pad left. Considering I spent less than $150 for my fronts, I can say that there's no alternative to consider.

Default I'M COOL TOO!!!

With a friends help, a lift, and a 3 1/8" hole saw, I finally got my N-Tech brake duct kit on!!!!!!

I took about 50 pix, and will post when I get them organized.

Like Jason, I still have a slight "crunching" sound when I near full steering lock.......but I"m pretty sure all I have to do is shorten the fiberglass ducts about 1 1/2".

mcclaskz, thanks for your pix.....they helped! Are you running the 14" Stoptechs? My friend has them, and his kit has no reduced steering lock. We guess that the brake line banjo bolt being 1/2" further "out", alleviates the interference problem Jason and I are having with our 13" kits.
