Default HAWKS PADS.... probelms

Just got my pads from Tire Rack.... looked a the pads and they are missing metal clips on them.

On the front... Not a single pad has them attached... and 1 is just laying in the box

On the rear... only 1 is attached .. and the other is not there.

ANYONE Installed these pads before. Did you have the same problem? Can these pads be used without the clips.

The clips you're talking about are the audible wear indicators.
You shouldn't have any problem using them without the clips, just keep and eye on your pads.

You also have another option of attaching the extra clip to one of the front pads so you can hear when they start to wear thin. I would go this route.

no ... i think they are called the Caliper clip... If you look on the pic.. You will see the pad in the UPPER RIGHT hand corner.. has it sticking out from the back.

That clip is usually mounts on the inside... where it touches the caliper. So thats why i need to know if it actually holds the pad in place or just there to keep it from wobling around under braking.

jeff is correct. the tab is there as a wear indicator only. the tab will start to hit the rotor before a worn pad will. this gives you an audible alarm as to when you should change your pads, and safety, so you wont damage the rotor. put them on...they are fine.

I just paid 405 dollars to have warpped rotors replaced and new shoes put on the front, I have 18,800 miles on my Z. I know this isn't the thread for this information but if any of you know a thread that's got some information PM me and let me know. I can't imagine paying 405 a year for breaks and rotors. I guess I should look at the backs now too. I don't track this car, in fact most of it is clear driving on the freeway. Thanks for your help...

mygspot,

Are you talking about the pads? We have a g35 also and I got a card in the mail acknowledging premature pad wear. The card also says they will replace them free (parts and labor for 36 months).

yes i got that card in the mail as well. The also claim that they will replace rotors if needs be. But after i talked to the dealer... he said basically they replace it with the same crap that was on it originally.

SO in other words i will be faced with same LOAD OF DUST and Wear out of pads in 12k. This is something i just dont want to deal with. I went ahead and got Hawk Pads that dust a lot less.
Beacuse the original pads... Messed up my wheels. Meaning.. they are completly ruined.... since i can wash them off due to exessive black crap build up.

I will be making a way to the dealer however for ... fluid change to Motul 600. The said they will cover it. So we will see what happens.
