Default Question about leasing and modifications

Hi all. I just got a brand new 06 350z base. I couldnt really afford to buy the car. so i went with the lease to buy option. My question is can you modify the car if it's leased to buy? The manager said it would be ok...but by the tone of his voice, im pretty sure he didnt know what he was talking about? any input will be greatly appreciated.

Well, if you don't buy it at the end of the lease you HAVE TO return the car to them in the same condition as when you first got it (less wear-and-tear). So you can mod it, but you'll have to return it back to OEM before handing them the keys.

But if you know that you WILL buy it then you can do whatever you want.

exactly. If you know you are going to keep the car afterwards mod the hell out of it and buy it at the end of the lease for a lower payment.

That's pretty much what I did. I wanted a lower initial car payment, then bought her out after two years for a little higher payment. The trick with leases is to know your stuff: negotiated price, money factor (interest rate), and residual value. In most cases, you will pay "more" for the vehicle if you lease, then buy, but I guess its the price you pay for having a lower payment for X amount of years (prior to buying). But hey, we only live once, eh?
