Default Buying a '03 350z, need help.

So yea i was looking for 350z's online since my car got totalled on the 15th on the highway, i got rear ended =( , anyways theres somebody sellin a '03 350z for 15k , but i was checking the vehicle report and what exactly does Lien mean? I emailed the guy about it and he sent me this back

Hi,

The price listed is correct 15,000. First of all I need to tell you that I
have moved at my parents in Martinsville, VA after I have lost my job, and
the car is locked in a garage in Hollywood, Florida, at my old address.
I am selling the car only because I have recently lost my job, and I don't
have any savings, the bills and the loans I have to pay are too high. I was
forced to move at my parents as I was not able to pay my rent, and right now
I need to sell the car as I can't afford it.

Lien most likely means the car used the financing at the time of purchase, and the back may still hold the title of the car until the loan balanced is paid off.

15K for a Z is a little too good to be true. But if you are local and can have anyone check it out for the legitimacy, do it and find out.

I would definately have this car checked out. It is an '03, that was sold at an auto auction the very first year this model car was out I don't know if it was bought, then stolen, or bought and the original lien holder couldn't make payments so it was repossed. Seems suspicious to me. If everything looks good though, and you can get a mechanic to look at it, then go for it. 15K is a good deal, well depending on the milage of course.

Agree. Just because a car lists for $15,000 does not mean that it will sell for $15,000. It could be a teaser. In other words you call and say that you are interested, and the seller says that he has a buyer for $17,000, but will sell it to you for $18,000.

BTW I would be curious about this entry:

09/17/2003 EASTERN REGION 2,912 AUTO AUCTION REPORTED AT AUTO AUCTION

Was the car auctioned? Wonder why?

My guess of the car history in red below.

02/07/2003 NY 115 MOTOR VEHICLE DEPT. TITLE (Lien Reported) Financer/Bank filed Lien. This would be the financer for the dealers inventory (reffered to as flooring)

05/03/2003 MIDDLEBURY, CT DEALER RECORD VEHICLE IN DEALER INVENTORY Recieved by dealership for New Car Sale. My Guess is the dealer drove it as a demo since it was probably one of the first he'd recieved.

09/17/2003 EASTERN REGION 2,912 AUTO AUCTION REPORTED AT AUTO AUCTION Sold by This is a guess but it could be that the dealer wrecked it, then repaired it and sold it at auction. I couldn't imagine him not just selling it as a used/demo otherwise. It obviously went to Florida from here. Probably to a used car dealer.

01/08/2004 FL 3,099 MOTOR VEHICLE DEPT. ODOMETER READING FROM DMV State inspection/transfer of title from NY to FL.

01/13/2004 FL 4,853 INDEPENDENT SOURCE INDEPENDENT INSPECTION/THEFT DETERRENT EQUIPPED Probably when the current seller purchased it.
02/27/2004 HOLLYWOOD, FL MOTOR VEHICLE DEPT. TITLE (Lien Reported) (Title #: 0089965553) Used car financer files their lien against title. The rest of the entries are self explainatory.

12/11/2004 HOLLYWOOD, FL MOTOR VEHICLE DEPT. REGISTRATION EVENT/RENEWAL
